• Didn't see Ha Long bay

  We didn't see Ha Long Bay. The tour operator picked me up and other passengers in Hanoi to do a 3-hr drive to the port. Only there did they announce that boats couldn't leave the harbour because of a typhoon. They served lunch and drove us back. No boats had left the port all day. But the guide wanted us to believe they didn't know anything earlier. As if the typhoon appeared out of nowhere. Instead of cancelling the tour before leaving Hanoi, they prefered not to say anything and have everyone lose a day. I understand they can't do anything about the weather, but they shouldn't have driven us to the port for nothing knowing that it was closed. Maybe the tour is good is everything goes accroding to plan, but you can't trust them if anything goes wrong.

  Lunch was good, the mountains great, was told the speedboat would take us to King kong island when we were on the bus. It just went around a few rocks, no King kong mentioned.

  Mostly good tour and great to see beautiful halong. Tour says maximum 40 that is misleading as on the boat there are two floors of 40 so really it is 80 not forty

  Small group which was great but boat had v large groups on and we kept having to wait for them. Very annoying and time wasted

  The review of this tour was a tough one. On one hand, the tour itself is excellent, albeit a 12 hour day in the middle of summer. Halong Bay is beautiful and the whole experience is very much something we are glad we experienced from a scenery perspective. Our guide was very good. Very organised, personable and fun to be around. Our driver though is another story. Wreckless, dangerous and a terrible person to be around. One our way home we experienced torrential rain for almost half the trip. It was evening and the driver instead of concentrating on the safety of his passengers, was driving the bus with one hand and with the other was flicking through YouTube videos and messaging friends. We were sitting behind him and could see everything. At the time he did that we couldnt see 2 feet in front of us because of the rain. He did it consistently throughout the trip. Total disregard for the well being of his passengers. Someone who really didnt want to be there and used this phone as a distraction from driving the bus safely. Appalling behavious from the driver in every way
