Hawai‘i Island’s only working salt farm, featured on Guy Fieri’s “Guy Hawaiian Style,” is located on a scenic 7-acre oceanfront site in the Hawai‘i Ocean Science & Technology Park (HOST Park)—a community dedicated to ocean innovation.
Our salt is hand-harvested by our Chief Salt Maker from deep ocean water drawn from 2,200 feet below the surface. On tour, you’ll learn about the cultural significance of Hawaiian salt (paʻakai), the journey of our ultra-pure water, and our solar-evaporation process. Enjoy a guided salt tasting, with pure, flavored, and smoked varieties.
Optional cold deep ocean water foot soaks are available. If you're short on time, visit our retail store—just minutes from the airport. Through our Give Back program, 1% of revenue supports marine debris cleanup and coral restoration. The tour is partially wheelchair accessible—please contact us for details.

The Salt Farm tour was great! It was the perfect amount of educational information while still being interesting and not too technical. Great to see the salt production up close. The salt tasting at the end was tasty and also no pressure to buy. My favoriting kind of tour!

The tour guide did a great job explaining things and was very informative. However it seemed like too many people for the tour as several people showed up late and the guide had to leave our tour group several times to check the latecomers in, which made things a bit disjointed.

Interesting commentary by our guide, Candy. Walked around the processing plant and then had an opportunity to taste a variety of different salts. Doesn’t involve some walking outside in the sun, but umbrellas & water are provided if you needed them.

We chose this tour to better understand how salt is harvested from the ocean. Our guide shared a great deal of information about the process, pumping deep water salt to extract salt and minerals. The site, while near the airport, sits on a pristine beach at the western-most point of the US. After the tour, we took a foot soak. At 45 degrees, the water was painfully cold at first, but as we got acclimated, it felt really good! We were served a tray of vegetables so we could sample the various flavored salts in the shop. A great place to spend a few hours prior to our flight home from Kona.

Very knowledgeable. When booking if you want to experience the foot soak be sure to schedule for that separately, we really wanted to experience that as well and was under the impression that it was included. However, it needed to be booked separately.

Great experience! The tour was very peaceful and informative. The Harvesting process is very simple yet time consuming. What a great way to use natural resources to get a true and pure hawaiian salt. Also found out that a natural by product of this process could also be harvested. Something that most humans lack in their diets and is needed. The Hostess was very educated and thorough in passing on Her knowledge. Thank you!

Jeff, our tour guide was very informative patient and pleasant to listen to. We walked away feeling like we had learned a tremendous amount of valuable about the islands and the salt production. We would recommend this tour highly to anyone and have already mentioned it to numerous people at our encouraging them to go thank you, Jeff.

Don’t miss this tour! What a fun and informative tour at the Salt Farm! From the tastings of the different salts they produce, to the foot soak afterwards we were so impressed with the aloha shared with us. They explain how the whole process works with hands on demonstrations while touring the farm. The views from the farm are also spectacular. The foot soak is a must add on! It is collllld but after a few dunks you get used to it and felt wonderful to our tired and achy feet after hiking the last few days.
