Since it is Alaska, the weather can affect this experience directly. On the day of our tour we did not know whether the tour would happened or not until 3:31PM when we got onto their 3:39PM shuttle bus to the airport! Once at the airport, we went through a safety briefing including the usual signing “Release of Liability”; i.e. signing your life away, watching a video and wearing of snow shoe covers. We felt a bit rush at this stage and we were not given enough time to get ready. We were required to leave everything at the airport other than what we were wearing and our phones/cameras. We were so rushed that we forgot our gloves and hats! The helicopter ride was smooth and the journey to the base camp too about twenty minutes. At the base camp, there were about 240 Alaskan Huskies of various age and sizes. We were split into groups of 4 (basically our fellow helicopter riders) and our Musher led a team of 12 dogs and took us around a fixed course. The actual ride lasted about 20 minutes. Then we waited for our helicopter to take us back down the mountain and back to airport. Their shuttle bus then dropped us back in town/port.

An Unforgettable Adventure with Coastal Helicopters – A Must-Do in Juneau! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 If you're considering a once-in-a-lifetime experience in Juneau, look no further than the Helicopter and Dogsledding Excursion to Herbert Glacier with Coastal Helicopters – it was absolutely incredible from start to finish! From the moment we lifted off, the views from the helicopter were breathtaking – soaring over icefields and rugged Alaskan terrain was simply magical. But the highlight was landing right on Herbert Glacier at the dogsled camp. The setting was surreal – pure white snow, crisp mountain air, and the most enthusiastic team of sled dogs and handlers you could ever meet. We were warmly greeted at the glacier by our musher, Sam, who was phenomenal! She was knowledgeable, engaging, and made the whole experience even more special. She shared her expertise about the dogs and the sport, and took amazing photos and videos for us – memories we’ll treasure forever. To top off an already magical day, I had the absolute honor of being in the sled with Jared, Nicole, and their son Landon when Jared proposed right there on the glacier – and Nicole said YES! Witnessing that joyful moment surrounded by snow, sunshine, and cheering dogs was unforgettable and brought happy tears to everyone’s eyes. The dogs were incredibly friendly and clearly loved what they do, and the entire staff made us feel welcomed and safe throughout the tour. The whole experience was exceptionally well organized and smoothly run – we couldn’t have asked for more. If you're anywhere near Juneau, do not miss this excursion – it’s worth every penny and more. It’s not just a tour; it’s a once-in-a-lifetime adventure full of wonder, joy, and unforgettable memories. Thank you to Coastal Helicopters, Sam, and the amazing dog team for giving us one of the most memorable days of our lives!

No matter what you think, you haven’t seen Alaska until you see it by helicopter flying to and from the glacier and being greeted by 240 dogs and a bunch of exuberant staff members. What a way to end our vacation!
