What To Expect
Our kayak rentals give you 90 minutes to cruise around the La Jolla Ecological Reserve at your own pace. We’ll provide all the equipment you’ll need, along with a safety briefing so you know where you can and can’t go. You’ll just need to check in at our shop 30 minutes prior to your reservation time, and kayaks and paddles will be waiting for you at the beach! Guests may see a variety of marine life while kayaking around the ecological reserve. You might see different kinds of fish, birds, seals, sea lions, dolphins and even whales (depending on the time of year.) You will also get to see the beautiful town of La Jolla from the water, and take the amazing scenery! If you’ve never kayaked on your own before, we recommend you check out our guided tours first. Kayak Rentals are NOT permitted into the Sea Caves. All guests must be able to swim comfortably in order to take a kayak out on their own. All participants must be five years or older in order to participate in activity.

5.00Be prepared to get wet! The tour guides Hannah and Devon were so knowledgeable and kept everyone safe. It was a fantastic afternoon! Even saw two leopard sharks while kayaking. 10/10 will come again!

5.00Sophia & Duke were amazing guides very knowledgeable & gave us new information we didn’t even know … Great overall experience, saw a few leopard sharks, Garibaldi’s & seals passing by the kayak on the way back!! We didn’t have a lot of expectations, we go paddle boarding & kayaking frequently so it was nice, water wasn’t too choppy & the paddling was nice & easy. Thanks again for a great birthday kayaking experience.

5.00I recently went kayaking with my children, and I have to admit—I tried my hardest to back out at the last minute out of fear. Thankfully, we had the most amazing guides, Lydia and Jake, who completely turned the experience around for me. They were so compassionate, patient, and understanding. Jake even went above and beyond by allowing me to ride in his kayak so I wouldn’t miss out. For the entire 90-minute ride to the caves (which were absolutely breathtaking!) and back, he shared fascinating facts, history and stories about the area that kept me calm, comfortable, and engaged. Meanwhile, Lydia worked extra hard at the caves so Jake could stay with me the entire time. Their teamwork, kindness, and professionalism made all the difference. Thanks to Lydia and Jake, what started out as a scary moment turned into one of the most memorable and enjoyable experiences I’ve ever had. I can’t recommend them enough!

1.00I went for my two kids very excited to rinse a kayak. I had a voucher through Groupons and they didn’t accept it at the store. They said you have to call in advance for availability so I have to pay a full price in the counter so why didn’t accept Groupons? It’s a scam. I will not recommend anybody to buy Groupons and go to kayaking

5.00This operator was very easy to work with. I called a few times before deciding to head over to book two kayak rentals for my family and me. They patiently answered all of my questions. We had Jackie as our kayak lead who explained all the basic safety measures and tips on how to properly row in all directions and what to do if we're in distress. It was definitely a bit of a workout, but I was happy to be out on the water for a good amount of time with my family and a couple of young ladies who were part of our kayak group - everyone was very friendly (so refreshing)! The caves, sea life, and nearby scenery were clear to see and all topics for discussion during our kayaking experience. I really appreciated how passionate Jackie is not only about what she does for a living but also about marine life and the surrounding environment in general. You can tell that she loves and respects the ocean. Ah, to be young and adventurous! Keep pursuing your interests and dreams, Jackie!

4.00No parking, have to park in surrounding neighborhoods & walk. $6 Viator fee that I wasn’t expecting and they hold a card while you’re out there. Rental lockers are available. The life vest were sandy and we were rushed out the water before out time was up.

The young man who worked with us went out of his way to obtain some kayaks for us even though we had no reservation. Great shop!

5.00Our guides were Nathan and Veronica and they were very good. We headed out and went to the cave which was great. They gave us good instructions and were attentive and helpful. It was quite an experience and I would recommend it.
