You'll learn how to make authentic Japanese sweets by easy recipe which can be downloadable.
You don't need to bring anything! Everything is provided at the lesson.
Solo and family friendly too.
This is a private lesson (if your group is more than 3 people), therefore you can learn step by step at your pace. Classes take place in a private residence where you can relaxed in a cozy atmosphere.
You can get all the portrait photos and videos taken during the class for your special experience!
My class is held in a quiet residential neighborhood, just 15 minutes by train or car from central Tokyo. Before and after the lesson, you can explore local shops, supermarkets, cafes, shrine, and a famous public bath. It’s a great chance to experience the peaceful charm of daily life in Japan—just a short escape from the busy city!
The menu is made from plant-based products that are easily available in your own country. Appropriate for vegetarians with vegan options available.
Public transportation options are available nearby
We have two short hair cats(they stay in the bedroom during a lesson). We don' t recommend to the person who has strong allergy to cats.
For a full refund, cancel at least 24 hours before the scheduled departure time.
In my lesson, you can learn how to make mochi using glutinous rice flour. Using the mochi you will learn how to make strawberry Daifuku (Out of Strawberry season, we use Pineapple or Kiwi), and Dango (mochi balls in a skewers) + two kinds of "Nerikiri wagashi"—traditional Japanese sweets. (Motifs will be changed according to the season.) You will learn how to shape the dough into a seasonal motif. The dough is made and colored in advance but you will have access to the tutorial video. After the lesson, you can taste your creations with a bowl of matcha green tea which you make along with my guidance, or take them with you in a special box. In addition to making Mochi and Nerikiri Wagashi, we will also introduce the history of Mochi. We will teach you various ways to eat Mochi. Since our recipe are simple and easy, you can recreate them by yourself for your family and friends after you return to your country. Ingredients are also easily available in your own country, and are made from plant-based products, this class is appropriate for vegetarians, too. You can also have a Japanese gift as souvenir.

Satoko's lesson was very well organised and professional. For example, I was impressed with the small additional details like folded origami bird with our names written on it, or the additional gifts. The lesson was well paced, we had time to take photos (with the decorations provided), and managed to meet her cats too. Satoko has a very sweet personality and is passionate about her job by the way she puts her efforts. Thank you Satoko!

This was the best experience we had in Japan by far. Satoko welcomed my daughter and I into her home and showed us a side of Japan that you won’t often get to see. Not only did we get to make some amazing and yummy Japanese deserts, but we learnt about the culture and traditions. I couldn’t recommend this experience more. If there is one thing you do in Tokyo, this is it. Just beautiful.

Satoko was very nice and apart from letting me do most of the cooking myself also shared some insights into the traditions and history of japanese sweets. I had a great time.

My American friend's first visit to Japan, the best Japanese sweets making experience! Learn in English for peace of mind. Don't worry if you're not good at anko!︎ Japanese sweets are art, so you can enjoy just making them. It would be even better if you could eat it! The dumplings were tender and the nerikiri was beautiful and very delicious. It was a valuable experience to learn about the seasonal events and culture of Japan.

This class was excellent! Satoko explained the Japanese culture related to sweets and the tea ceremony in a very accessible and fun way. Making the daifuku and dango went very well, and I am now confident to try to make some at home. The Nerikiri looked so beautiful that I expected it would be difficult to make , but with the prepared dough, special tools and careful explanation from Satoko it also went wel and came out beautiful. Wrapping it up with a beautiful bowl of green tea was a perfect way to end this very enjoyable educational and cultural exchange. I look forward to try and make friends and family at home happy with some hand-made mochi!

One of our favorite experiences in all of Japan! After the bustle of Tokyo and Osaka, having a quiet afternoon learning the history of mochi and negiri and putting hands in dough was so nice and relaxing! Satoko was a joy! And we are so glad we got the pleasure of Marina assisting! Very knowledgeable and engaging! This is something we will definitely bring home to make for our family and friends! Beautiful and delicious!
