• Do the 5k hike!

  A wonderful day, the highlight of my time in China. I did the 5k hike option with Taka, where at the top of the eastern section you cut through a 'secret passage' that leads to a section of the wall that was not refurbished, so it is overgrown, falling down in sections, but so serene. I was on this hike with 4 other people. It is not for the faint of heart or out of shape. You have to climb 1000 steps to get to the top of the eastern section, some of these steps are at a 80 degree slope, and then you get on the 5k hike section where you are clambering up slopes, navigating holes in the wall, and cutting through overgrown trees. It is so peaceful there though; you are far away from the masses on the refurbished wall below you. Taka is a funny, knowledgeable guide who really goes above & beyond to treat you with respect. Look after him. The Mubus operation is top notch. When you get to the meeting place be sure you are in the right group as some people are doing the hike, others are not. You all take the coach together to the wall (about 75-90 minute drive), then you go for a quick educational session and go to the shuttle bus to the trail entrance. REMEMBER YOUR PASSPORT as you will have to have it scanned about 4 times while you are at the wall. Take lots of water and wear proper shoes / hiking boots if you plan to do the hike. The buffet is really good, plentiful, and so well needed after hours hiking. Enjoy.

  Everything was was smooth and hassle free - really well arranged. On the bus all the advice was provided and history explained. Ample time to actually visit both sets of the wall. Lunch was superb - highly recommended - loads of food and choice. Only niggle was at the end, where we had to walk 10 mins to the subway from the bus drop off point.

  Hiking the Great Wall is an experience on its own. We took the Western side first, which we found to be the busiest, but as we started to go to the East, it became less crowded and relaxing. Cici, our guide, was simply wonderful! She’s the sweetest person you can meet, super knowledgeable and such an energetic tour guide. We did everything within the specified timing and had amazing tour companions. A must when you are in Beijing

  Jillie was wonderful And the tour was worth the visit. If you listen to the guides they will give you the best tips on saving energy and time.
