We are the only company that offers an authentic night hike inside the Rainforest, at the base of the majestic Arenal Volcano. In addition, we are the only local company certified as Family & Kids Friendly, ideal for family enjoyment and suitable for all ages.
This experience takes place in a 100% natural environment, it is not a controlled environment. The animals live in complete freedom, so each walk is different and sightings may vary every night.
Accompanied by an expert naturalist guide, we will explore the trails of Mirador El Silencio.
During the tour we will look for frogs such as the hourglass, Blue Jeans and the iconic red-eyed frog. It is also possible to observe exotic insects, reptiles and snakes. With any luck, we can find mammals like sloths, possums or anteaters.
To enjoy this experience safely, it is essential to use closed shoe.

What To Expect
Mirador El Silencio
Get into one of Costa Rica’s most iconic forests with our La Fortuna Night Tour, an experience that begins promptly at 5:30 p.m. and invites you to discover the magic of the rainforest at the foot of the imposing Arenal Volcano. During this guided walk you will learn about the geological history that shaped our country, the influence of volcanoes on the local ecosystem and the particularities of the climate of the area. As night falls, the jungle awakens and you can observe the incredible flora and nocturnal fauna of La Fortuna. Among the animals we usually find fascinating amphibians and reptiles such as crystal frogs, tree frogs, rain frogs, wet forest toads and the great cane toad; in addition to snakes such as coral, muzzle, stone hand and the well-known velvet. It is also possible to observe mammals such as coati, armadillos, possums, howler monkeys, white-faced monkeys and squirrel monkeys.

Wildlife is unpredictable

4.00Wildlife were predictable so you are not guaranteed to see everything easily. We spent the first hour walking in the dark and didn't see much. Mainly just more common insects like grasshoppers, crickets and and spiders. We saw some amazing snakes and frogs towards the end of the trip near the swamp and it was cool. We just felt that the hike could have been shorter. We spent lot of time walking quickly without being able to see much.

1.00So our accommodation was cca 1 km out of their pick up radius. After booking, we contacted their support to sort this, as it was recommended on their website, which also mentioned that an additional charge may be applied in these cases. This "additional charge", mis amigos, is 40 USD. Don't bother asking them to do you a favour, you will receive a link to the terms and conditions in reply, and an advice to book an Uber from their wifi onboard. You guessed it, there is no wifi. Me and my husband paid 120 USD for a 90 minutes walk in the woods. For that price, I expect more than the bare minimum "according to the T&C". The activity itself was OK. The guide, Nei, is a real enthusiast and very knowledgeable. He and the driver then gave us a lift back home without any issues - because it really isn't that much to ask. Nice guys. Btw, there were 4 elderly people in our group who struggled with the walk, I found it quite dangerous for them. Not sure who sold them this trip, but their expectations were clearly not managed well. Not that you need to be a fitness guru but you do need to be able to walk independently for 90 minutes in the darkness without pause.
