We are the only company that offers an authentic night hike inside the Rainforest, at the base of the majestic Arenal Volcano. In addition, we are the only local company certified as Family & Kids Friendly, ideal for family enjoyment and suitable for all ages.
This experience takes place in a 100% natural environment, it is not a controlled environment. The animals live in complete freedom, so each walk is different and sightings may vary every night.
Accompanied by an expert naturalist guide, we will explore the trails of Mirador El Silencio.
During the tour we will look for frogs such as the hourglass, Blue Jeans and the iconic red-eyed frog. It is also possible to observe exotic insects, reptiles and snakes. With any luck, we can find mammals like sloths, possums or anteaters.
To enjoy this experience safely, it is essential to use closed shoe.

What To Expect
Mirador El Silencio
Get into one of Costa Rica’s most iconic forests with our La Fortuna Night Tour, an experience that begins promptly at 5:30 p.m. and invites you to discover the magic of the rainforest at the foot of the imposing Arenal Volcano. During this guided walk you will learn about the geological history that shaped our country, the influence of volcanoes on the local ecosystem and the particularities of the climate of the area. As night falls, the jungle awakens and you can observe the incredible flora and nocturnal fauna of La Fortuna. Among the animals we usually find fascinating amphibians and reptiles such as crystal frogs, tree frogs, rain frogs, wet forest toads and the great cane toad; in addition to snakes such as coral, muzzle, stone hand and the well-known velvet. It is also possible to observe mammals such as coati, armadillos, possums, howler monkeys, white-faced monkeys and squirrel monkeys.

5.00We went on a night hike around Arenal. Our guide was Eric. It was our favorite tour on our entire trip. Eric was friendly, funny and so knowledgeable. A true professional! We saw several snakes, frogs, spiders and many more. Eric was even taking photos for us that looked like they came out of a magazine. It was absolutely worth what we paid and more. This guy is deserving of plenty of extra tips because he is that good!

4.00Overall, it was a very good experience. The tour was well organised from start to finish, with pickup and drop-off exactly as promised. The walking group itself was small, which made the experience feel personal and not crowded. Once in the forest, it often felt like it was just our group, which was great. Our guide, Neifryn, was enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and clearly passionate about the wildlife. He also had a macro lens adapter and a ring light for his phone, which let him get great close-up photos of the animals and share them with us afterwards. We saw a good variety of wildlife, including several frogs (including red-eyed tree frogs), lots of spiders (including huntsman and tarantulas), a baby northern cat-eyed snake, and a Mexican mouse opossum. We didn’t see a glass frog this time, but that’s nature. The only downsides were minor. At times, the walk felt a little rushed, likely because of the need to keep to a schedule. Also, my torch wasn’t fully charged, and the light faded before halfway through, which slightly detracted from the experience. I also wish the walk itself was about 30 minutes longer, as that would have made the pace feel more relaxed. Overall, it was a solid night walk in the Arenal forest, and I’d happily do it again. I would definitely recommend it to anyone visiting La Fortuna.

5.00We had an amazing time with our tour guide Daniel! He was so informative about the area and the animals that we were seeing. We really wouldn't have seen the frogs, snakes, spiders or geckos without him there. You truly aren't guaranteed to see every animal that lives in Costa Rica but we saw more than we thought we were going to.
