What To Expect

Northern Lights Photography Hunting is your best chance to find the aurora borealis! Our professional hunters will drive you in the most promising locations, based on the weather forecast and solar wind data to optimize your chance. We will take high quality photos for you with a professional camera. Photos we will send you by email. Our aurora hunting tour departs from Rovaniemi, Lapland. The tours are organized from the end of August until beginning of April on nights when seeing auroras is possible. Where are we heading? It depends on the night, we are carefully following weather forecasts and how clouds are moving along. Based on this information we will choose the right direction and location to go out of city lights and light pollution. Duration is usually 6-8 hours, it depends on the weather forecast.

Couldn’t recommend this tour enough. You can tell the guides have such a passion for what they do. Joona messaged us earlier in the day asking if we could start earlier because of the projected forecast showing how much preparation they put into making sure we had the best experience. We went to a spot that was safe and had wonderful views of the aurora.

Joona Forsgren from Johka Arctic Experiences provided our family with a wonderful day-trip experience to a reindeer farm. He was extremely knowledgeable about all things Finland. He was a great conversationalist, had a tremendous command of English and is a truly wonderful ambassador for his country. He asked if he could take some pictures of us as he has his cameras with him at all times. The bonus came the next day when we received some breath-taking and stunning pictures of our adventures at the reindeer farm. He certainly captured all the beauty and excitement our family experience. His gift of pictures was totally unexpected and very much welcomed. Thanks Joona, for your time. And to all you travelers, if you get the chance to book a trip with him, DO IT!

The entire experience was indeed magical! Came without expectations, with dismal weather forecast. But Joona proved us wrong! He came well prepared, with at least 100 pinned locations on his map, driving us near the Swedish borders, studying the wind and all. His passion for his work was very inspiring. Honestly couldn’t have asked for a better and enthusiastic guide! Also, it was a small group tour of max 11 people. Will definitely recommend this tour to everyone (esp those afraid of big groups and crowds).

This was an amazing tour and I very highly recommend to anyone considering. Due to the weather conditions, we had to drive for some time however as soon as we stopped, the sky opened up. To an untrained eye, the Aurora forecasts suggested a poor chance and only a weak outlook. Joona predicted a location and from the first sighting, we saw the Aurora all night! We were very lucky to see many pulsating Auroras. We would not have seen any if we had have stayed near town, and I have no doubt Joona’s skills and experience exposed us to much more than I had expected. Thank you Joona!

I had a tremendous and incredible experience yesterday seeing the Northern Lights. When I posted the photos in my social media , I was asked how long I had to wait for the lights to appear. The answer was: 10 seconds. Thanks to the competence of the guide Joona, who, by continuously accessing technical information and graphics in real time, figured out a spot to take us to where we could contemplate this spectacular dance of lights. And in addition, he showed competence and kindness by taking countless and sensational photos of all the participants in the tour. I highly recommend taking the tour with him.

My family had an amazing experience with our guide Antti. My group consisted of two seniors. He ensured they were warm and had drinks and cookies. He is very knowledgeable about the northern lights. We learned so many tips and tricks on where to find the lights, why they happen, what it looks like on other planets. He pointed out constellations and shared stories of other hunts he’s been on. Our family was blessed to see a burst of the aurora with our naked eyes. We also saw the lights pulsate and Antti did research after our trip to help provide knowledge on what we had seen. Antti also made sure we had a fantastic location for the best chances to see the lights in seclusion from other groups. We highly recommend him as your guide!
