Although the listing specifically stated a private tour with no one other than our party involved, we met the guide and saw a large van loaded with other people. The guide said it was a group tour, but we insisted we booked a private tour (afterwards, I sent a copy of the original listing we booked that stated private tour). After some discussion and our intent to cancel and obtain a refund, the operator arranged to drive just our party of 4 in another van with our own guide. We were happy they were able to resolve this quckly and they are to be commended for responding as they did. That said, there is a lot of driving on bumpy roads (not good for anyone with even minor back issues) to get from one featured site to another. At one stop, a black house with restaurant nearby, there were thousands of midges (tiny bugs) in the restaurant, historic buildings, parking lot, everywhere. They could not be avoided. One guest had so many bites, she had welts that itched for days! Not the best location and tour, but OK. Would not book again. However, thanks to the vendor for correcting private tour booking error.

We booked this tour simply to see the Callanish Stones. The visitors center is closed for renovation, and no ship tour busses can enter. What a delightful surprise this entire tour turned out the be! Shonnie was our guide. He was absolutely brilliant! I had no idea how interesting the other stops would be! The Butt of Lewis lighthouse scenery took my breath away. The black houses were a real unexpected wildcard! And we even saw President Trump's mothers house! Shonnie shared the history of the Gaelic people with such passion and was a wealth of knowledge on the history of the island. I cannot believe how much was packed into this 6 hour tour! It was so good that I almost forgot we were going to the Outlander stones. The Callanish stones was a bucket list for me and they did not disappoint. The best way to end the tour and they were not crowded at all. Do yourself a favor and book this!

Tour guides were friendly and local to the area. They provided interesting local information. However, out of the 8 "inclusions" advertised, we can only really give them a check on 3. They advertised the following: Snacks (did not provide), Water (did not provide), Entry/Admission to Lews Castle (did not advise that it was closed), Entry/Admission to Whalebone Arch (we did drive past, but it is open to public on the side of the road), Entry/Admission to Callanish Standing Stones (we did go, again it is open to public and no entry or admission is required), Entry/Admission to Butt of Lewis Lighthouse (we did go, you cannot go in the lighthouse, and the area around it is open to public), Entry/Admission to Harris Tweed Shop (did not even go), and lastly, Entry/Admission to Moluag's Church (we did go, again it just feels misleading in terminology... it is open to the public, so the +$200USD does not "include admission" to this place) To be fair, we did go to Black Houses, several beaches, and an ancient tower ruin that were not advertised but were very interesting, and honestly some of the highlights of the trip. I guess I wouldn't be so disappointed with the places we did go to, if it hadn't said that Admission was included, when it was either free or we would have to pay. It felt misleading at best. Additionally, they did not accompany us at any of the sites. Many of the other tours we have been on, and the tours that were around us yesterday had their guide with them as they walked to the attraction. Our tour guides told us to walk to the site and read the placards along the path and be back in 15 minutes. For some of the sites, they did not even talk about it while we were in the van. In conclusion, if the +$200USD per person was just the cost of having them drive us around, that would be one thing, but it felt a little misleading and was disappointing to not even do all of the things that were advertised. They were very nice people and the van was clean. I just think that it falls short of other tours at this price point.

The tour guide was nice, did not talk much or gave much insight into the areas visited. The bus was quiet for a long time even when we were traveling to a site. There was a problem with the speakers on the van, limiting the tour guide ability to talk about the sites. He just had us read the information on the binder.he passed around. He didn’t step out with us and explain what we were seeing . We had done other tours with Viator. And now we reconsidering our future tours with Viator.

This was a wonderful tour that covered a lot of Shoonie's home country. There were mountains, beaches and lots of history. Angus was a wonderful driver and I'm glad I took this tour to be able to learn so much.
