A fascinating walking tour enjoying a variety of flavoursome sweets, mains, snacks and drinks (Nyonya, Indian, Chinese & Malay) washed down with contextual history by our informative guide Garrick on the heritage of Penang’s people’s, culture, religion and of course food. Garrick provided insight and anecdotes that kept the tour engaging and entertaining.

This was an awesome experience! JS Lim was our guide, and he was outstanding! He gave us a great tour of both the local food as well as some local history. We had an opportunity to try Nyona, Indian, Chinese, and local foods. We tried all different drinks and fruits. I would definitely request him personally if we ever wanted to go on a tour again.

We went on this tour our first evening in Penang. It’s a perfect way to get an introduction to the great food this city has to offer — plus our guide, Lim, was terrific in sharing about the culture and history along the way, and making this much more than only food focused. (Although the food is a highlight!) We tried different snacks, fruits, drinks, and meals. No one on our tour went the least bit hungry or unsatisfied! And we learned several delicious dishes and snacks to come back for in our subsequent days in the city. Lim is a real ambassador for the city and was incredibly helpful with ideas and suggestions for other things to do and foods to try. We also had the pleasure of doing a city orientation walking tour with him in the morning — that combination gave us the best day and start possible for our Penang visit.

This was an amazing food and cultural tour with a wonderful tour guide, Garrick! If you’re looking for a perfect combination of delicious food, cultural sites, and friendly local insights, this is your tour! We took two teenage kids and all four of us had a wonderful experience. Garrick was fun, hospitable and showed us a wonderful slice of Penang.

We had the most amazing experience walking the streets of Penang, enjoying not only the best Michelin rated local spots with world class front of the line service, thanks to our amazing guide, Garrick, but also some of the top cultural sites to see in Penang. If you are looking for the best way to see art, UNESCO world heritage sites and more, all while eating the most delicious local food and drink and talking with a friendly resident guide, THIS is your tour! Our group of four (2 teens and 2 adults) enjoyed learning about the history of the regional cuisine and the local culture. Unlike other food tours we have done, this one really integrated sites and culture along with the food!

Garrick was an enthusiastic and welcoming guide who made the tour truly enjoyable. Along with introducing us to the culinary scene in Georgetown, he also showed us parts of the city and told us about its history. These breaks between the different dishes were perfectly timed, and we tried authentic food we would likely never have chosen ourselves.

Our guide JS Lim was pleasant and patient to explain everything at every stop. We learned something about different cultures in different neighborhoods. He was kind and patient to take the time to walk with us 2 senior ladies (one walked extremely slow), and he generously shared his knowledge about the food we tried and about its community. Our walking tour finally ended 3 hours later, which i believe had exceeded its original schedule. But JS never rushed us. Our most memorable was the walk towards the waterfront to the Jetty Heritage pier and ate by the street. Although the shrimp noodles soup was not that good, the other stir fry egg noodles (炒棵條) was tasty. JS even offered to buy another plate for us if we wanted. Overall, tourist can expect this foodie walk is a variety of small-portion, cheap local street foods to introduce one to the multi-ethnic food cultures of Penang.
