Perfume Pagoda

8.00: Start from your hotel in Hanoi, pick you up to start the journey. Perfume pagoda is about 60 km away in the South West of Hanoi. The driver would take you to enjoy the countryside before you reach the pagoda. 10.00 : Start the sampan ride to the main pagoda. As a religious center, there are 18 pagodas surrounding it. Today, our sampan will bring you to the Registration Hall – Den Trinh, to the Heavenly Kitchen – Thien Tru. Have lunch in a local restaurant. After lunch, take a round trip cable car to the most beautiful cave of Vietnam with the pagoda inside – Huong Tich. Here, Vietnamese people would love to pray at some strange shaped rocks such as Silver, Gold, Boys or Girls, or simply at a rice pile made from rock. 15.00 Row back to the mainland and take a ride back to your hotel in Hanoi. 18.00 : Finish the journey at your hotel in Hanoi.

Great day trip. Minh was from the local area, near the Pagoda, and very knowledgeable. The boat ride was fun! Lunch was great and had tons of food and choices. We hiked to the top and visited the cave. Great to sweat a little after sitting most of the day. It’s a long trip with some slow parts but worth it to see the pagoda and cave.

beware to experience a culture shock: visit the Perfume Pagoda as you would be a Vietnamese Pilgrim Tour Guide shows you how to pray at every temple. Around Lunar New Year very crowded, tour is a little bit rushed (breaks too long, time at sights too short). Interesting, but if you want to enjoy a more historic and artsy approach, tour not recommended, but go privately.

Enjoyable day away from the hectic city. Our guide Cong spoke English well and gave some interesting information on the journey. The group opted for the cable car option both ways, although there were still plenty of steps to and from the pagodas. There were some slippery areas and steps within the cave, so wear appropriate shoes. Lunch was served family style and included a number of local dishes that were pretty tasty. The sampon ride to and from the area was long and the metal seating was very uncomfortable. It was an interesting experience, but would have been better with a motor boat imo. Time spent on and around the pagodas totaled about 1.5 hours, which I thought was short, but we were easily able to see both. Overall it was an nice day.

The trip was nice. Long car ride, pleasant boat ride, lots of walking and hiking. We had 2 stops, at one temple, and then at the cave. I'm not sure what's standard, but I was expecting more time to wander and explore those 2 specific places. We had 30 minutes in the temple, and a little less in the cave. It was beautiful, and I needed the day off so I appreciated the entire journey. We did keep a leisurely pace overall though, which was nice. The tour guide seems to dislike English teachers, so, if that's you then I would lie and say you're on holiday just to be safe. It was my birthday and my first day off in ages and I wasn't interested in hearing his opinions.

The trip to the Perfume Pagoda was really incredible. The views are incredible. And to make it even better, the instructor was very knowledgable and funny, which made the trip worth a 5 star review in my opinion.
