This is a place relatively unknown to tourists even though it is one of the most important landmarks. Kerameikos means “ceramic”. It was called like that because there were many ceramic workshops here. It was also the cemetery of Athens for many centuries. In this place many prominent Athenians whose name are famous, were buried here! This is also where Pericles pronounced his famous “Epitaph” speech for the first casualties of the Peloponnesian war where he praises the virtues of Democracy and the ways of the Athenians.

This is an amazing tour -- especially for the (very reasonable) price! It includes several must-see sites in Athens -- and Panos (our guide) is tremendously knowledgeable (not only about the history of Athens but about the history of Western political and social thought). A great experience!

Very knowledgeable and enthusiastic guide. The tour covered most of the archaeological sites in Athens besides the Parthenon. He provided a good overview of Athens, history and the development of philosophy in general. We thoroughly enjoyed this tour and our guide.

Panos put Athens history into context - your other tours will make much more sense after hearing his explanation of how and why Athens developed and changed through the centuries. Plenty of opportunities for questions along the way. Panos spoke loudly and clearly so earphones were not necessary. He is knowledgeable and passionate!

  • Easily worth the price
