Join your host Putu in her kitchen for a private, hands-on cooking class. Unlike many other TripAdvisor tours, this is a private experience. You and your host will prepare 2-3 authentic Balinese dishes. As you chop, grind and grill, Putu will teach you about the spices she uses in her family recipes as well as the medicinal qualities of Balinese ingredients.
Putu's kitchen is simple, with only a two-burner cooktop but you will be impressed by the speed and fluidity with which she prepares a complex menu with multiple dishes. You will taste a variety of authentic dishes with potential ones being Putu’s grilled eggplant with tomato, grilled fish with Balinese sambal (chili sauce), a curry dish (either chicken, fish or vegetarian) or perhaps a variety of pepes (foods seasoned with local spices, wrapped in banana leaves and steamed). You can expect the cooking lesson to last about 1-2 hours before you sit down and enjoy the delicious meal you helped prepare with your host and her family.

Join Putu in her home kitchen for a private, hands-on Balinese cooking class held in her ancestral village in Ubud, nestled among lush gardens and tropical orchards. You’ll be warmly welcomed by her multigenerational family before preparing five authentic dishes together, using fresh ingredients harvested from her own farm. As you chop, grind, and grill, Putu will share stories behind her family recipes, the vibrant spices she uses, and the healing properties of traditional Balinese ingredients, most of which come straight from her own farm. Her kitchen may be simple, with just a two-burner cooktop, but you’ll be amazed by the ease and grace with which she brings complex flavors to life. Your meal will be accompanied by their family’s homegrown rice, cultivated by Putu’s grandparents who are rice farmers. Beyond cooking, Putu offers warm insights into Balinese Hinduism and local life, all with a great sense of humor that makes the experience both meaningful and fun. Your class lasts about 1.5 hours and ends with a shared meal of everything you’ve prepared. It’s perfect for food lovers and curious travelers looking for a deeper, hands-on connection to Balinese culture and cuisine.

I had a wonderful experience with this Balinese cooking class and it was one of the highlights of my trip. The class took place in a beautiful village setting that felt authentic, peaceful, and incredibly scenic, which made the experience even more special. Everything was very well organized. The meals were thoughtfully planned and all the ingredients were prepped ahead of time, so the class felt smooth and enjoyable. Putu, our guide, was so kind and welcoming and made the whole experience feel relaxed and easy to follow. I would definitely recommend this to anyone visiting Bali!

They picked us up at our hotel and drove us to their home and told us about the family history and temples. Then we cooked 4 dishes that were outstanding. We brought our own wine. After 3 hours they returned us to our hotel. The kitchen is outdoors under a covering in the beautiful garden. Many of the ingredients come from the garden and chickens they have. We have done many cooking classes and this one ranks at the top. Thank you Putu.

We (family of 3 - mum, dad, son 12 yr old) had an excellent evening with Putu. We all had great fun and learned a lot - both about the food but also about Indonesian religion and culture. We highly recommend this tour if you are into food :-)

Pity’s cooking class was hands down one of the best experiences we’ve had in our trip to Bali. We were looking for a fun thing to do that was not too touristy, as we value authentic experiences very much. Everything right from the beginning was pleasant and easy with Putu. She and her husband picked us up from our hotel in Ubud and drove us to their house in the village. Putu let us in to their home and private temple and explained what’s behind it, answered all of our questions and we had an open, sincere conversation about culture, religion and life. Then we moved to the cooking part which was awesome. Putu explained everything to the detail while letting us do the cooking itself, and sent over the recipes afterwards (which was super nice!). Honestly, we had such a fun time with her, and such a nice meal to finish it. Highly highly recommend you take her class 🩷

The most authentic experience we had in Bali. Putu and her husband came to pick us from the hotel and we drove to their house in the village. She showed us her family temple and explained about Balinese culture and farmer life. They grow everything in their garden! And producing on their own. From rice to coconut oil, coffee, cocoa, herbs, spices, roots. And the cooking class was educating and delicious

If you’re looking for an authentic, unforgettable experience in Ubud, this private Balinese cooking class at Putu’s home is an absolute must. From the very beginning, Putu went above and beyond—she and her husband personally picked us up from our hotel, making us feel welcomed right away. When we arrived at her family home, it felt like stepping into the heart of Balinese culture. Putu took the time to walk us through her home, explaining her family temple, traditions, and daily customs in a way that was both fascinating and deeply personal. One of the highlights was touring her garden, where she grows many of the ingredients used in the class. It was incredible to see everything so fresh and organic—truly farm-to-table at its finest. We were even treated to a refreshing coconut drink, freshly harvested right from her own tree! The cooking class itself was hands-on, fun, and incredibly informative. Putu guided us step by step as we prepared six authentic Balinese dishes, thoughtfully adjusting each recipe to match our spice tolerance. From chopping and slicing to learning traditional techniques, she made everything approachable and enjoyable. After cooking, we sat down to enjoy the delicious meal we had created together—and it was absolutely amazing. Every dish was bursting with flavor, made even more special by the experience behind it. Putu is truly one of the sweetest and most hospitable hosts you could ever meet. Her warmth, knowledge, and passion for sharing her culture made this experience far more than just a cooking class—it was a genuine cultural immersion. Highly, highly recommend—this was easily one of the best experiences of our trip!
