Royal Mile
The Royal Mile is the historic heart of Edinburgh, Scotland, running from the Edinburgh Castle to the Palace of Holyroodhouse. It's about a mile long (hence the name) and is lined with shops, restaurants, pubs, and historic landmarks like St. Giles' Cathedral. It's a bustling area full of history, culture, and tourist attractions.
New Town
New Town Edinburgh is the elegant Georgian part of the city, contrasting with the medieval streets of the Old Town. It was built in the 18th century as a solution to the overcrowding in the Old Town. New Town is known for its wide streets, neoclassical architecture, and spacious squares, such as Charlotte Square and St. Andrew Square. It's a hub for shopping, dining, and cultural activities, with attractions like the Scottish National Gallery and the Princes Street Gardens. New Town offers a different vibe from the Old Town but is equally charming and worth exploring.

This review is 5 stars because of the customer service, not the tour itself. Unfortunately, our ship was not able to tender to Edinburgh due to weather conditions. We learned of the cancellation only about an hour before our tour was scheduled to start, and we had already paid for the tour. Viator handled this all very professionally and treated me very fairly in refunding what we had paid. We were past the cancellation deadline and grateful for their understanding of the situation. Beyond that issue, the team at Viator did a great job communicating with me from my initial inquiry to letting me know exactly where our guide would meet us. I really wish we could have taken this tour—maybe someday!

Our guide, Saf, was great! He was informative gave us a great overview of the city and captured some great photo spots for us. It’s a great way to start day one of our visit to Edinburgh. It gave us the lay of the land so we can decide where to return to next.

Ask for a less thick accent to improve the enjoyabikity. Our private tour was in a black traditional taxi car, a private driver. It was hard to see out with the barrier between us and the driver. We saw many wonderful landmarks and learned much about the culture. Take this tour early in your journey. Calton Hill cafe with the glass walls.
