We have been running this tour since 2015 and it is always a big hit. Hosting the tour in Katong allows guests to get out of the usual city and tourist spots. Katong has a laid back atmosphere which is helped by the cool sea breeze and the brightly painted houses.
On our private tour we will go at a slower pace. Smaller groups allow us to have more interaction with the chefs and hawkers along the way. We often stop to chat to our local food heroes who love telling their stories and having their pictures taken. We want to connect you to the real local food and way of life and Katong is a great spot to do this.
You'll enjoy dishes from different ethnic communities. Malay, Indonesian, Eurasian, Chinese and of course Peranakan. We'll also be visiting our Michelin recognised Katong Laksa shop along the way. As the tour is private we can order dishes depending on your preference and take in the experience at your own pace.

Katong is a village situated on the East Coast of Singapore. It is famous for 2 things. The first is being the Peranakan enclave of Singapore. The second is food. Those visitors who do make it to Katong often come to see our colourful shophouses. These Peranakan homes are famous around the world and have been kept in mint condition. They add a unique characteristic to the area. Being near to the coast makes Katong an irresistible area to do an evening food tour. The cool breeze offers us perfect conditions to explore the heritage streets and to enjoy our food on the streets as local life goes by. Katong is know to be one of the best foodie neighbourhoods in Singapore. It is the home to one of our national dishes, Katong laksa. In a short walk you can experience Malay, Chinese, Indian, Indonesian, Eurasian and of course Peranakan food.
Sri Senpaga Vinayagar Temple
One of the oldest and most beautiful Hindu temples in Singapore. We visit this temple on the evening tour for a number of reasons. First it is important to realise how multi-cultural this part of Singapore is. The community around Ceylon road has played a huge part in the Singapore story and the temple is the centre point in their life. We also get to see how food and religion mix. The banana leaves arching across the entrance and the coconuts being smashed at the front of the temple all carry meaning. Our temple visit shows an insiders look at life in Katong.

We had a great 2 hour food tour in Katong in the early evening. Wonderful currypuffs, Laksa and Chicken Rice, topped off with some local sweets. The two guides were very friendly and knowledgable and Singabites really went out of their way to customise our last minute tour. Thank you for a great introduction to Singapore food culture and a lovely start to our excursion in Singapore. Gabriella and the Materials Engineering students from NTNU, Norway
