What To Expect

Watching and swimming with whale sharks in La Paz Bay. Travel in great comfort including snorkeling equipment, drinks and snacks. In addition to being accompanied by certified bilingual guides and expert captains. Although the chances are extremely low, there is a small risk of not encountering whale sharks during the activity. We are in an open natural area and the presence of wildlife may vary. We will always do our best to give you the best experience, but we appreciate your understanding of this unusual scenario.

Buyer Be Aware! I wish I could say my experience was 5 stars for the shark whale tour but it was not. What is advertised on their website is not what was delivered. The tour lasted less than 3 hours and to date we have not recieved our "go pro pictures and videos." It is very disappointing. The only reason I am giving 2 stars is beacuse we did see whale sharks. I would recommend going with a company that has more experience with the whale shark tours.
You / operator canceled the tour well after the 24 hour cancellation window. We have lost a lot more than ticket price

DO NOT BOOK. We booked for 28th at 11:30, paid fully and then rented a car for $320 to get us to LA PAZ from the corridor. Cancellation policy was 24 hours prior for a full refund. However the operator (not us!) Cancels it at 3:20PM, at least that's what TripAdvisor email says, and the "good news" is that they will issue a refund of the ticket price!! What about the transportation that we will now lose? And they can cancel anytime at no penalty to them?? Looks like the 24 hour rule is only for us! Ridiculous!!

They were late and very unresponsive. We had to text and call multiple times to figure out our slot. We left our breakfast in the middle because the guide said he will be there on time but he was 30min late. The guy on water left me stranded in the middle of the sea chasing a whale shark. They need at least two tour guides for safety. The activity needs fast swimmers since to fully see the animal, you need to keep in same pace as the animal’s swimming. They were also unresponsive for the videos after the tours. Basically nobody responds to calls or texts. Boat felt unsafe for the waves and this activity.

We were all excited to see the whale sharks on our first visit to La Paz. Unfortunately, we got lots of wrong information even up to the day before the trip. And ultimately, when we confirmed the time, we got conflicting information even the morning of the trip. And then ultimately, they cancelled the whole thing! It ruined the whole thing for us, and we missed out on the most important part of the trip.

Positive points: the guide and the driver of the boat were very friendly, attentive and available for us. We were entitled to fresh fruit and equipment (combination, masks, fins, tubas) was provided. We were able to see a whale shark up close and we had some explanations about the animal. Negative points: we are notified the same morning of the exact time of the tour. I received as an indication 12:20, then I was called at 10:00 to ask me if we could be there in 15 minutes. We hurried and had to review the organization of our day by warning that we would be there at 10:30 but that before it could be complicated. We arrived at the meeting point, no one was waiting for us, we found the boat, we were first told that it was not here and then we were sent back to this same boat. An organization to review... I was disappointed with the excursion because we are told pseudo safety rules for us and for the respect of the animal, and they are not really respected. We were told that we had to stand between a minimum of 2 or 3 meters of the animal. When jumping into the water with the guide, she positions us, and we found ourselves extremely close to him. It was impressive and very beautiful to see but I'm not sure it respects the animal. We were able to jump only 2 times to see a whale shark. We must have seen him for 10 seconds both times. Paying so much for this type of experience... I don't really recommend it. We have the impression of bothering the animal more than anything else without being able to really enjoy it either. I made several excursions to La Paz and Mexico, where I was able to swim or observe several marine species (whales, dolphins, manta rays, turtles...), I was able to enjoy it more while respecting the animals and paying less. Also beware of people with seasise, it's shaking! I will only recommend for people who absolutely want to see a whale shark, the goal is there, we see it, but that's all.

Christian (guide) and Jaun Carlos (boat captain) were informative and efficient in providing us equipment, the rules, background on whale sharks and getting us into the water to see these amazing creatures quickly to maximize our allotted time with the whale sharks. They then guided us to the swim with a sea lion colony and on to Balandra Bay for some relaxation and a great picnic lunch complete with incredible ceviche and beer (if you choose), along with other food and drink options. They also utilized reusable plates and utensils, which I can appreciate. Balandra Bay is a beautiful beach setting to complete a wonderful tour. For one last added bonus, they stopped by an island where many Blue Footed Boobies were hanging out on our way back to the marina. Christian and Jaun Carlos took great care of us and provided a great very worthwhile experience. I highly recommend this excursion.

What an incredible experience that I will always remember viewing, up close, the beautiful sea life of La Paz! My husband and I were lucky enough to find Christian and Salty Life in Baja last year in 2024 for the extended whale shark swimming, Sea Lion, and Balandra Beach day when we were visiting La Paz as we explored the area before sailing our own boat here this 2025 season. Christian has been responsive through WhatsApp and coordinated his schedule to take us again this year when my sister and her boyfriend came to visit us on our sailboat. Christian has such respect for the animals, his clients, and the beautiful natural surroundings of his hometown of La Paz. His English is perfect and he wants everyone, regardless of their swimming ability, to feel comfortable and safe and to experience the beauty and tranquility of swimming with the whale sharks. Thank you Christian for another incredible day that I will always cherish and remember!

Our extended whale shark and sea lion watching experience with our guide, Christian, and boat Captain Juan Carlos, was fantastic. I am a wolf watching guide in Yellowstone and really appreciate their attention to detail and respect for the wildlife. Their teamwork and experience allowed us to ethically view and learn about the animals in their natural habitat. Christian’s well-spoken knowledge about the animals’ behavior and Juan Carlos’ safe and attentive piloting made for a memorable and satisfying experience. The whole operation, beyond just our group, was tight and organized and low stress. A relaxing, well prepared lunch on the beach was a perfect way to end a great morning.
