What To Expect
Get comfortable while we head over to the Whale Shark refuge area; it will be a short boat ride from the Marina where you will be given a quick briefing and the rules to protect these magnificent fish. Put your wetsuit and snorkeling gear on, and be ready to be amazed. Now it is time to jump in the water and have a close encounter with these docile creatures in their natural habitat. Our experienced and certified Captains and Guides will make sure you have a lifetime experience. Live this unbelievable experience with us and scratch it off your bucket list! IMPORTANT INFORMATION Only 14 boats are allowed per turn, with 4 daily turns: 7 am, 9 am, 12 pm, and 2 pm. For the 7 am and 9 am turns, we request spots via WhatsApp the day before at 3 pm, and spots are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. If we don’t secure a morning slot, we request a spot for the 12 pm or 2 pm turns the next morning. We will get in contact with you if we don’t get the desired turn to let you know the turn we got assigned. Please plan your schedule accordingly.

5.00We had an amazing experience with Chrissy. She was very knowledgeable and we were able to get on a whale shark very quickly. We had a full boat but everyone was able to get about 10-15ish minutes each with the shark. Rotating through 5 mins per group. They also provided water, drinks and a small snack for after that definitely helped get the salt taste out of our mouths. All in all a highlight of our trip. If you are taking this trip you just need yourself, a bathing suit and be ready to swim with fins on. I highly recommend swimming on your side so that you dont make any splashing as well as are able to get the best fin performance to keep up with the whale shark.

5.00We had an absolutely great time! I was starting to get discouraged because it took us a minute to spot any of the whale sharks. But alas! We did indeed find them and our time in the water with them was great! Weather is a heck of a thing so the only thing that would have made the day any better would be a sunny day. It was my 40th birthday and one I won’t EVER forget. My daughter and boyfriend enjoyed themselves as well. I’m so glad that we booked this. Stephany was so amazing, informative, and sweet. I will be back again one day!

5.00We had an amazing experience with Tuna Tuna Tours. We did the morning whale shark snorkel trip with Juan Carlos as our captain and Stephany as our guide. Stephany taught us about the whales and ensured we treated them respectfully. We had trouble finding a shark at the beginning but once we found one, they kept with it despite challenges and a fast swimming wild animal. We highly recommend this tour.

5.00Chrissy our tour guide and Marco our captain were great. Definitely recommend. We saw two whale sharks and got to swim with them. I definitely felt like I got enough time in the water with them too. They were amazing. You have to wear a life jacket for wet suit (provided) due to La Paz law. Wet suit wasn’t too bad.

5.00We had a wonderful experience with Tuna Tuna Tours. Communication was excellent from start to finish. Our guide Maritza and captain Marco were extremely knowledgeable, friendly, and attentive, making sure everyone felt comfortable and well informed at all times. They gave clear instructions that prioritized both whale shark safety and passenger safety, and they truly took great care of the entire group. I really appreciated the strong regulations in place where the whale sharks congregate — conservation clearly comes first — yet our small group still had plenty of time to observe and admire these incredible animals. Highly recommend this company, and I would absolutely do this tour again.

5.00This whale shark tour was an outstanding experience that I would recommend to anyone! Our skipper Alex and our guide Maritsa (spelling?) were excellent. Maritsa in particular knew a lot about whale sharks and helped us swim safely alongside one. If you want to swim with whale sharks in La Paz, go with this company. You won’t regret it.

They demonstrated respect for the wildlife and ecosystem throughout our time with them - everything from clear rules about how to behave in the water to leave no trace practices. For me this was the most important aspect of choosing a tour operator for a wildlife adventure. And on top of this, they were also very well organized, friendly, and informative. Finally, I appreciated that the group was small, the equipment well-maintained and sized to fit everyone on the boat, and the food was good. I highly recommend Tuna Tuna Tours!

5.00We had an absolutely incredible experience on this whale shark tour. Our guide, Maritza, is a deeply knowledgeable PhD researcher specializing in microplastics, and her passion for whale sharks truly shows. She was calm, reassuring, and incredibly kind—at one point she even took my mom by the hand and gently guided her through the water when she felt scared. The entire day on the water was wonderful. We found whale sharks quickly, were able to stay with them, and had plenty of time swimming alongside these incredible animals without feeling rushed. Everything felt respectful, safe, and well-run. Alex was a fantastic captain as well—skilled, attentive, and professional. I should know, I’m a captain too. Truly an unforgettable experience, and I couldn’t recommend this team more highly.
