Jeans are not suitable clothing; water proof jacket and shoes and a warm sweater are recommended.

During winter months we are working with very limited daylight hours. This may result in some of the sites being visited in dusk or darkness, or skipped altogether. We will do our best to avoid this, but ask for your understanding should this happen.

What To Expect

Hraunfossar

Hraunfossar is a series of waterfalls formed by rivulets streaming over a distance of about 900 metres out of the Hallmundarhraun, a lava field which flowed from an eruption of one of the volcanoes lying under the glacier Langjökul. Hraun means lava and fossar mean waterfalls, so the name basically means Lava Waterfalls.The water originates from Langjökull glacier, the second-largest glacier in Iceland, therefore, making it the twin brother to the powerful Gullfoss waterfall. The glacial meltwater has to travel quite a long distance to Hallmundarhraun filtering through the lava field and spouting out again in an incredible water array.

Langjokull Glacier

Langjökull is the second largest ice cap in Iceland, after Vatnajökull. It is situated in the west of the Icelandic interior or Highlands of Iceland and can be seen clearly from Haukadalur. Its volume is 195 km³ and the ice is up to 580 m thick. The highest point of the ice cap is about 1,450 m above sea level. At least two volcanic systems can be found under Langjökull glacier but have been dormant for thousands of years

We had a fun day exploring the Silver Circle with Hilmar! He was friendly, knowledgable and clearly an experienced driver through the snowy mountains of Iceland. We were able to take some scenic detours and explore a bit more of the unbeaten path. After two days of driving ourselves around, this was the right area to have hired a professional in a vehicle made for the snow-covered road conditions. Thank you Hilmar!

a great family day trip to the sights of the 'silver circle', remote waterfalls and glaciers in a big tyre super jeep, great fun, staggering scenery. Tour guide Kjartan was very experienced and great fun too. A special trip on the last day of our holiday, after several great, regular tyre, coach trips with Icelandia.
A great tour with a guide who wants to share his love for his spectacular country.

Turned out we were the only ones on this trip, so pleased it didn’t therefore get cancelled. The super jeep was fab. Our guide works as a tour guide as an extra to his usual job at ATC at Keflavik airport because he loves his country so much. His stories and passion for the country were happily shared. It was a fabulous experience - stunning scenery, hot springs, waterfalls and snowy roads to the glacier.

My wife and I went on the Silver Circle tour on the 2nd Jan 2019. This trip with Activity Iceland was better than fantastic and we had an amazing guide called Gunnar. My wife was very nervous before going on this tour, as she was really worried as to what to expect, however there was no need for her to worry as Gunnar was so professional and friendly and put my wife at ease. His skill with the vehicle was incredible, along with his knowledge of Iceland. This trip was one we will never forget and it was worth every penny. Our trip to Iceland was a lifetime experience and this tour was most definitely the high-light or our holiday and a memory we will treasure.

The Silver Circle Tour was an awesome adventure. Our driver and guide Gunnar was excellent, well experienced, fun and very knowledgeable. He gave us lots of great stories about Iceland and its culture as well as any information about all the areas visited. My favorite part was definitely driving up the bumpy highland roads, in a totally comfortable super jeep, to the glacier top where we also visited an ice cave tunnel. This tour is a fantastic mix of beautiful waterfalls, historic sites, and ice caps. Highly recommend.
