Experience the excitement of Japan's national sport with our January Sumo Tour at Ryogoku Kokugikan! The tour begins as you meet your English-speaking guide at the iconic sumo arena. You'll receive an introduction to sumo, its centuries-old traditions, and the rich history of the Kokugikan.

Next, explore the inside of the facility with your guide, who will point out key areas and share cultural insights. You’ll also have time to browse the official sumo souvenir shops, where you can purchase unique memorabilia such as sumo-themed goods, snacks, and exclusive merchandise.

And finally, the highlight is watching a live sumo match! Feel the intensity and tradition as you sit in your reserved B or C class seat, surrounded by local fans and the powerful atmosphere of real competition.

*The guided tour lasts about 90min, and the rest of the time you can watch the tournament by yourself.

We'll step into the place where sumo wrestling is currently taking place. Before the matches begin, let's first take a look at the refreshments and merchandise store. You will find unique capsule toys and other valuable items that can only be purchased here. After shopping, your tour ends when you receive your sumo tickets from your guide. Enjoy the moment of frenzy with all your senses and with your whole body.

Our visit to the sumo tournament was a highlight of our time in Tokyo. Tomoko was an excellent guide - very friendly and she taught us a great deal about the history and rituals of sumo which made watching much more enjoyable.

Great intro to Sumo - Shigeru was a really knowledgeable guide and he gave us loads of great little bits of history and facts. Great guy. It would’ve have been better had Shigeru also joined us in to comment on the actual sumo for the bouts- currently they don’t join you- But the sumo itself is just something to behold. The pomp and pageantry and all the rituals. The crowd are electric for the bouts which are over in a flash - and the wrestlers are proper tanks!! Loved it
