From the moment we stepped into Jiji’s beautiful home in Ariana, we knew we were in for something special. The stunning paintings adorning the walls caught our attention immediately, and we were delighted to learn that our talented hostess Jiji was the artist herself. This was just the first hint of the multifaceted experience awaiting us. We began with warm Tunisian hospitality—fresh orange juice and Makroudh, delicious semolina cookies filled with dates. As we chatted about Tunisian culture and learned our first word (“aishek” for thank you), Jiji and her daughter Kenza made us feel like family rather than visitors. The hands-on cooking experience was wonderfully organized. We started with dessert, preparing assidat el boufriwa, a luxurious hazelnut cream that resembles Nutella but without chocolate—absolutely divine and worth the wait while it chilled. The menu was a comprehensive tour of Tunisian home cooking. We chopped vegetables, rolled meatballs, and stirred pots under Jiji’s expert guidance. The dishes we prepared included a refreshing tomato-cucumber-mint salad reminiscent of shirazi salad, and brick—Tunisian spring rolls filled with potato, egg, ricotta, and parsley, fried to crispy perfection and brightened with fresh lemon. The star of the evening for me was the lentil soup. Loaded with vegetables including pumpkin, potato, carrot, and onion, seasoned with tomato paste and “tabel” spice blend, then blended into a thick, creamy texture with incredible depth of flavor—it was easily the best lentil soup I’ve ever tasted. The meatballs (possibly called merkez kaaber) combined chicken and spinach in a white bean stew, elevated by homemade harissa that added the perfect kick. The main course featured chicken quarters with vegetables over orzo pasta, also nicely spiced with harissa. The balance of flavors in this dish made it my second favorite of the evening. The best part? Sitting down to enjoy this feast with Jiji and Kenza, sharing stories about hobbies, culture, and adventures. Their warmth and genuine interest in cultural exchange transformed a cooking class into a truly memorable evening with new friends. If you’re visiting Tunis, I cannot recommend this experience highly enough. You’ll leave with new cooking skills, delicious recipes, and wonderful memories of Tunisian hospitality at its finest.

We arrived on the wrong day, The roads were flooded from a 24 hour rain storm. We apologized profusely But they invited us in and we started cooking. The dishes were exactly what I wanted to learn about. How to make a brick, spices, stuffed peppers. My favorite Sign up for a class, it's a great way to meet Tunisian, have a great experience, and a fabulous meal.

What an incredible experience! Honestly, this Tunisian cooking workshop is by far one of the best things I’ve done in Tunisia. We laugh, we cook, we eat (a lot, actually), and I can’t even begin to describe how delicious it all is… Truly, everything is perfect. If you’re ever in the area, don’t hesitate for a second—go for it with your eyes closed! I 1000% recommend it. Jiji and Kenzo, thank you so much for your warm welcome and great energy. I felt super comfortable. I can’t wait to try these recipes at home! As promised, I’ll be back during my next visit.
