Osaka Castle
The iconic symbol of Osaka in the Kansai region of central Japan played an important role in the unification of Japan during the samurai era of the sixteenth century.
America Mura
Amerika-mura - or Amemura to the locals - is a warren of narrow streets which is at the heart of youth culture in Osaka, with dozens of shops catering to fans of urban apparel and hip-hop wear. But even if you’re not clothes-shopping, there are plenty of foreigner-friendly bars and restaurants in the area.

The tour was amazing! If you can, I highly recommend the private tour! We were able to flex the itinerary a bit to spend some time in spots. We started at Osaka Castle and it quickly made an impression. But every spot was interesting and Scott added great context!

Andy was an amazing guide, highly recommended. He shares the perfect blend of deep historical knowledge and modern Osaka cultural insights. Most importantly he has a great outgoing personality and made the walking tour fun for me and my 2 daughters. Perfect way to orient yourself to an amazing city and continue exploring.

If you have limited time but want a real feel for Osaka, this is the tour for you. But early warning - it is a LOT of walking. And I will begin with my constant refrain - a tour is only as good as its guide and Anna was outstanding. She gave our group a comprehensive overview of history and events without overwhelming us with information. We began at the beautiful Osaka Castle then wended our way to and through the city’s defining areas, some by way of the Metro. Three choices for lunch were provided at a small local restaurant and it was a welcome respite for the feet! As outlined in the tour’s description, Anna took us to some hidden gems that you would never find yourself! She happily answered all and every question and showed genuine enthusiasm for her city. We had an exhausting but amazing day!

Over the course of 6 hours, this tour managed to pack in some of the city's most iconic neighbourhoods and landmarks without ever feeling rushed. We kicked things off at Osaka Castle. From there, the tour wound its way through the edgy vibe of Amemura (America Mura), the bustling Shinsaibashi Suji shopping street, and the popular Dotonbori Canal. We then made our way from the peaceful charm of Hozenji Yokocho to the lively chaos of Kuromon Market, where we got to sample local street food. The grand finale in Shinsekai, with its retro Showa-era vibes, was the perfect way to end the journey — a little nostalgic, a little quirky, and unmistakably Osaka. What really brought the city to life, though, was our guide — an American who's been living in Japan for 15 years. His deep knowledge, passion for Japanese culture, and knack for storytelling made every site feel meaningful. He had a gift for weaving personal anecdotes, historical context, and local legends into a seamless narrative that kept the group engaged from start to finish. First-timers, wear comfortable shoes, bring your curiosity, and prepare to walk away with a deeper appreciation for one of Japan’s most vibrant cities.
