Enjoy an exhilarating experience at Fundación Loros, a 1,300-acre sanctuary of tropical dry forest. Begin with a traditional breakfast by the lake, followed by an engaging talk from expert biologists on parrot and macaw rehabilitation. You’ll help prepare and deliver food to rescued birds, connecting with their recovery process. Then, guided by our biologist, board a Pioneer 700 UTV to explore vibrant forest habitats, spotting parrots, monkeys, and other native wildlife as you ascend to a panoramic summit. Along the way, you’ll harvest cassava and papaya with local farmers and learn about sustainable practices rooted in tradition. Before the journey ends, you’ll plant a native tree—leaving a lasting contribution to the regeneration of this fragile ecosystem. Important: We do not feed or touch the animals. All activities are guided by trained staff in a rehabilitation center—not a zoo. Please note that the price does not include transportation between your hotel and the sanctuary. However, getting here is easy: we can arrange private transport for you, or you can take Uber if you prefer.

Fantastic day that started with homemade breakfast. We then helped preparing trays for the feeding of the parrots which got released. We then ATV drove to witness the feeding of tamarin monkeys. We saw turtles, donkeys and other birds on the way. We also planted a tree. Our guides were passionate and very nice. And of course the company of Happy the dog made the whole experience even better. It was a great day. It is also rewarding to help the local fauna.

Viator arranged a taxi for our transport to the Loros Wildlife Sanctuary. While the ride was long, you experienced the city and countryside on the way. The ride was well worth it. The work the Sanctuary does to rescue and rehabilitate birds and monkeys is amazing. Their goal is to release them back to their natural habitat, if possible. We heard the horror stories of some of these beautiful animals. To see them interacting in this safe environment was heartwarming. I am now following the Loros Sanctuary on Facebook. I highly recommend this tour when you visit Cartegena.

This trip is worth every second of the holiday time credit. You learn a lot about the project, see different types of parrots and monkeys and take a breath in peace. A nice escape from the hectic Cartagena. Super nice staff, and authentic snacks complete the experience.

This tour is inside a foundation, which by itself is unique. The activities are amazing, watching and feeding birds in process of being sent back to the wilderness, watching actual monkeys in the wild, the views, the snacks, everything was amazing. Transporting to and from the foundation was great, private. The best part was the interaction with the people working in the foundation, they are welcoming, knowledgeable, kind, and you can tell they are happy and eager to be there, to make an impact. I highly recommend the horseback riding if you like that more than the open air trucks but that was great too!

This was a very cool experience. The guides were all very knowledgeable and passionate about their conservation efforts. We learned so much about the foundation and the importance of preserving nature and saving the animals affected by deforestation and other issues. This is great for families and great opportunity to learn.

At first we were a little skeptical since there aren’t many reviews, but I am so glad my daughter and I booked this tour, it was unforgettable. The staff were incredible: Andy (a veterinarian), Paulina, and Roshan (biologists) showed such passion for conservation and took time to explain everything about their work rescuing parrots and monkeys from trafficking and returning them to the wild. Their knowledge and care were inspiring. The families on the property were warm and welcoming, serving us fresh food and fruit. One highlight was feeding the parrots cut fruit, it felt magical. We also planted a walnut tree in the mountains, making the experience personal and meaningful. The UTV ride was both fun and scenic, with cinematic views of Cartagena in the distance. Everywhere we looked, the landscapes were stunning. It was a wonderful experience, instructive, exciting, and filled with magical realism. You reconnect with nature, observe monkeys, interact with parrots and macaws, and see firsthand the foundation’s vital work. The staff were attentive, funny, and caring. I highly recommend this tour and hope Fundación Loros gets the recognition it deserves for their outstanding conservation efforts. Travel tip: Wear long sleeves, long pants, and long socks, and bring bug spray for comfort.
