This was an amazing experience, 1000% recommended! Thao brought us around her bustling neighbourhood morning market, picking up fresh veggies for the day and showing us the various stalls in the area - how locals go about their daily routines. For the cooking class (a short bike ride away), she showed us how to make a few simple but perfectly well balanced dishes - mango salad, sour fish soup, banh xeo, a pandan banana dessert, and egg coffee. (We were so full! Could have done a half banh xeo!) Thao was warm, fun, and friendly, and her instructions were clear and easy to follow. She took the class at a relaxed pace, and showed us tips and tricks to fix some basic cooking problems. What I appreciated most was that she took the time to make a personal connection and share with us little snippets of her life and daily routines. This was such a treat. Thank you Thao and the Vietnam Flavour company!

This cooking class was truly exceptional. It began with a visit to a real local market in the 5th District — not the tourist one — and from the very first moments, you could feel that Masterchef Thao is not only an expert in Vietnamese cuisine, but also deeply connected to the local community and the region. Her knowledge and passion made the market tour both insightful and authentic. We prepared five dishes: the famous Pho Bo soup, salad, banana dessert in panda leaves, and egg coffee. The cooking studio is located outdoors in a beautiful garden, creating a fantastic atmosphere. I had the privilege of a 1:1 cooking session lasting around five hours, and Thao made every minute worthwhile. She was incredibly attentive, generous with background information, and explained everything in clear, excellent English. She is friendly, patient, and genuinely cares about your experience and understanding of Vietnamese flavours and techniques. She also tells you many stories about the region, country, and culture, and it becomes not only a cooking class but also a Vietnam class, which I loved. I enjoyed every moment — not only as a culinary adventure but also as a deep dive into Vietnamese culture, traditions, and attitudes. One of the best experiences I’ve had in Vietnam and highly recommended! At the end, you also get the receipt book via mail so that you can cook it again at home.

It was an amazing experience, we went to a local market and picked out all the fresh produce, herbs and spices to use for our meal. We got back to the kitchen in the garden and everything was explained and instructed very well and the food turned out great. I would highly recommend this cooking class.

Awesome cooking class where we made some yummy dishes. We were taken to the local markets to buy our food and spices which was interesting. Our chef was amazimg and the cooking class was held outdoors, under cover. Wish we had done this at the start of our trip so we were more familiar with the cuisisne.

This cooking class was so fun! My partner and I learnt so much and are feeling so inspired to cook more Vietnamese food. It honestly was such a fantastic afternoon. One tip: make sure you have a bit more time than what is listed on the website! We had to run off before dessert because of a flight booking.

An extraordinary culinary journey awaits in this class. Every flavour and texture is masterfully presented, thanks to Tao’s exceptional expertise—not only does Tao guide participants through herb identification by touch and aroma, but provides insightful explanations of the science behind flavour combinations and precise temperature techniques for crafting truly remarkable dishes. The food market tour is an immersive celebration of culture and diversity, offering a vibrant backdrop for the day’s creations. Prepare to be amazed by how much food is served—portions are impressively generous, so arriving with a hearty appetite is highly recommended. By far, this has been the most memorable and rewarding experience in the city to date.
