The Monastery of Agios (Saint) Nektarios is the most important religious monument of Aegina, located 6 km from the center of Aegina Town. The monastery was founded by the Bishop of Pentapolis Nektarios around the period of 1904-1910, after the request of several nuns. Bishop Nektarios settled down in Aegina in 1908, yet the monastery operated again in 1904 under his guidance while he remained in Rizarios School. He lived in the monastery for 13 years and he was buried under a plane tree outside the church of the monastery.

  • A Perfect Day on Aegina with Maria

Visiting Aegina Island was a wonderful experience from start to finish. Our guide, Maria, was warm, engaging, and full of fascinating cultural and historical knowledge. She took us to a hidden monastery tucked away in the hills, then to an incredible seaside restaurant where we got to choose our own fish to grill — the chef even invited me into the kitchen! We sampled Aegina’s famous pistachios, explored the charming downtown area at our own pace, and enjoyed a relaxed, well-paced itinerary. The group of about 14 people was the perfect size — small enough to feel personal but large enough to be social. Highly recommend this tour for anyone looking to experience the authentic charm, history, and flavors of Aegina. Maria made the day unforgettable!

Great sites and a wonderful island, with many varied experiences, and tremendous shopping, especially with the sales at the end of season. Directions for meeting places could be more specific.

It was easy to book this tour online for my daughter and myself. The instructions for where and when to meet were clear. There were 10 people total on the tour. Maria was our tour guide and she was very fun and knowledgeable about the island and its history. It was the end of the season so was not crowded anywhere we went. I learned a lot about pistachios we stopped by some pistachio trees for a little lesson. There was time to explore when we stopped at various places. We stopped for lunch at a nice restaurant with a view of the sea, we could pick which restaurant we wanted to go to. My daughter bought some clothes at a good price since it was the end of the season abd shops were closing. The last stop was a wonderful shop that had pistachio everything, and we all got to have samples of sweets, ice cream and some pestos. Our driver Marcos was very good and also knowledgeable about the about the island. We had just the right amount of time at each stop to take photos and walk around. The van was a nice Mercedes Sprinter. I would highly recommend if you want to go to Aegina Island to take this tour!

What a great visit to Aegina. Margarita took such good care of us from greeting us at Piraeus to the final good bye. This 10 hour outing included 1+ hour ferry rides to and from the island. We were driven around the island in a small luxury bus by an excellent driver. Margarita gave us so much history of the island, the temple, monastery and towns plus much information about pistachios, local water and energy systems… We had free time to explore the towns and 2 hours lunch or swim in Ayios Marina. I highly recommend this all-day, small-group tour.

The tour guide had an abundance of information, and her enthusiasm and love for her country are evident. Very good! She was patient and ensured that the group knew exactly where to meet and when to meet. The tour guide provided great guidance as of where, for example, to go for lunch or where to go for a swim.

A wonderful trip to a beautiful island which we all very much enjoyed. It was very well organized and our tour leader, Margaret, was very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful throughout. We had enough time to explore on our own during the stops (although a bit more time at the Temple of Aphaia would have been good) and we particularly enjoyed sampling lots of pistachio-based treats at the end of the tour! Overall, a great day and reasonably priced too!
