As darkness falls, and the witching hour creeps ever closer, join us for a spine tingling, late night, 80 minute walking tour of Edinburgh’s Old Town and underground. The often brutal past of Scotland’s capital creates a wholly unique, grand but somewhat unsettling atmosphere which lends itself to evening ghost tours. Let one of our costumed guides, playing an infamous, historical character, lead you through the Old Town’s winding closes, show you the notoriously haunted Greyfriars Kirkyard and reveal one of Edinburgh’s darkest secrets – the underground vaults that snake beneath the city. Hear gory, but always entertaining and revealing, tales of ghosts, torture, executions, murder, cannibalism and witchcraft. The scares on this tour do not depend on jump scares or cheap tricks but good storytelling.

Our tour guide David Rizzio (James) was HYSTERICAL!!! The tour was so funny while also pretty spooky! He had us laughing the entire time, sometimes to the point with tears in our eyes. This was the highlight of our entire trip. If you’re considering a night tour, we highly highly highly recommend this one, especially if you’re looking for something a bit raunchy.

the experience was entirely misrepresented and did not meet the expectations set by its description. The tour was marketed and presented as a paranormal/ghost experience, one that would immerse participants in authentic stories, eerie history, and a sense of the unexplained. What I received, however, was a staged performance that felt more like a comedic skit than a serious exploration of Edinburgh’s haunted history. The guide, who portrayed himself as a character named “John Knox,” spent the majority of the time in exaggerated acting rather than providing historical accuracy or genuine ghost stories. From the very beginning, the performance felt more like theater than a paranormal or storytelling experience. I came into this tour anticipating ghost stories based on Edinburgh’s history — tales of haunted closes, supernatural legends, or accounts tied to specific locations. Instead, what was delivered was satire and theatrical improvisation, which was never made clear in the advertising. This left me and others in my group feeling deceived. We signed up expecting ghostly narratives and chilling anecdotes rooted in the city’s past. Edinburgh is known worldwide for its authentic ghost tours, many of which present researched tales from history and folklore. This tour did not do that. Instead, we were met with dramatic overacting, exaggerated character play, and material that could not be taken seriously. While there is nothing wrong with theatrical entertainment when that is what is advertised, it is misleading to sell this tour as a ghost/paranormal experience when it was, in fact, pure performance. The “paranormal” aspect was essentially nonexistent. At no point did I feel immersed in a ghost tour; instead, I felt as though I was watching an actor put on a role
