Kanazawa is rich in history and incredibly beautiful, but what truly made the difference was Mike, our guide. His exceptional knowledge and entertaining personality transformed this day into a precious memory. Without giving away too many spoilers, I can say we learned unexpected and hilarious things - like the surprising story behind the white wood in historical monuments. An absolute must-do tour! P.S. Mike's boss - he really deserves that promotion ;)

The tour guide was a Northern Irishman called Daniel and I couldn’t recommend him more. He was extremely knowledgeable on Kanazawa and Japan, thoughtful about giving people time and space to enjoy, yet keeping momentum and enthusiasm - and had very clear diction and speech. Nothing was too much trouble and we learned a great deal. It was excellent.

We absolutely loved, loved, loved this full day walking tour in Kanazawawa. Being from Australia and having not travelled in Japan before, I was a complete dunce about Japanese history.........Being honest! Garrett, our guide was nothing less than phenomenal. With a Masters in Japanese History, there was very little that he did not (or could not) explain to us and with relatable examples and comparisons in history. Quite seriously, when you are looking at tour options, it's really easy to think that an entire day walking, looking and talking is far to much, but by 5pm (finish time) we were still on a high and needed to go and have a beer to talk about our day and the interesting and entertaining parts of what we had learnt. It was seriously facinating. How often do you get to visit a samurais house, drink macha tea as you gaze out of a huge window as the snow gently falls and walk through a geisha's house? If you are in Kanazawa, definitely, definitely this 'Day Tour from Kanazawa: Samurai, Matcha, Gardens and Geisha'. I doubt very much if you could replicate this tour experience doing it on your own. It really was a highlight during our trip to Japan.

Mike was a wonderful guide. Had some reservations because of the rain and the distance but neither were major issues. Covered the distance no problem and even endured a little hail without issue. Kanazawa is surprisingly walkable. Tour was amazingly insightful. We saw all the major sites with a lot of interesting history and little details. Fun overlap with the Shogun series. Mike pointed out sights along the walk between major points of attraction making the walk itself fun. Mike was enthusiastic and knowledgeable. Would recommend without hesitation.

Honestly so much if this was a great tour as a first timer into Kanazawa. It was a great overview of some of the areas and history as we walked between each major point on the tour. My guide, Mike, was very knowledgeable about everything and made sure to point out some interesting shops as well as offer time to explore between each destination. My favorite part, though, was probably getting to sit quietly and drink matcha while looking out into a peaceful garden. I could have sat there all day.
