This RIB safari takes you from Øystese into Fyksesund, the only fjord branch of the Hardangerfjord without road access all the way in.
After leaving the harbour, we travel out into the main fjord before turning into Fyksesund — a narrow and dramatic fjord arm surrounded by steep mountains and waterfalls. As we move deeper into the fjord, the atmosphere becomes increasingly quiet and untouched.
Your local skipper makes several slow-downs along the route, allowing time for photos and short stories about the landscape, fjord life, and the people who once lived here. During snowmelt and after rainfall, Fyksesund is at its most impressive, with countless waterfalls cascading down the mountainsides. We cruise close enough to feel the fresh spray from the falls.
Near the end of the fjord, we stop outside Botnen, a historic and completely roadless hamlet that offers a rare insight into traditional fjord life.

What To Expect
Fyksesund Bridge
The Fyksesund bridge opened as the longest suspension bridge in northern Europe in the year of 1937.
Botnen - today a relocated community with only inhabitant, and one of the most authentic and worthwhile cultural landscapes in Hardanger, as it was in the late 1800s. There was a viable community here in this roadless hamlet only accesible boat!

5.00Great tour with guide explaining the most important things, on the Hardangerfjord and to the end of a narrow side fjord. Passing waterfalls, remote individual houses and villages surrounded by high mountains. Even a few high speed minutes with tight curves are not missing - just for fun. RIB for 10 people, weatherproof jumpsuit, life jacket, glasses and hood are provided, the latter may be remembered. A super nice trip worth every minute. Start is 15 minutes before the start time of the trip at the reception of the Hardangerfjord Hotel in Oystese

5.00This really was an exceptional experience - one of the best things I have done. On the one hand, the breathtaking and unique scenery, with close-up views of waterfalls plunging hundreds of feet into into the fjord. On the other hand the sheer exhilaration of travelling at speed on the RIB. Our guide was also very informative about the history and demographics of Fyskesund. My eight-year-old son loved every minute of it, as did I.
I would definitely go if I was there again.

5.00Absolutely brilliant experience the guide/skipper ( I am sorry I forgot your name) was so informative and you could tell he loved his job. The Hardangerfjord is beautiful so peaceful would definitely come back and do another RIB maybe the longer one. Came by bus from bergen to Oystese which took about 1hr 45mins but the journey was beautiful, the time went so quick and a lovely way to see Norway and only £10 return. The first bus that arrived at Bergen bus station was full so they put another one on which arrived 10 mis later but made the time up to Oystese.

4.00A thrilling tour around some of the highlights of the fjord. The views along the quiet arm of the fjord were fantastic, as was going under waterfalls and driving at speed across the water. The guide/driver was pretty taciturn and gruff and told us off for being late even though we were earlier than the specified arrival time. With a more charming guide this would be a 5-star trip but was still a great experience.
