This is a lovely Kyoto Machiya exhibition room located near Toji Temple, about a 5-minute walk from Kyoto Station. In the kitchen here, we hold small-group cooking classes for overseas visitors on Japanese cuisine, vegetarian cuisine, and obanzai. We will demonstrate how to cook rice in a clay pot and how to make miso, a fermented food. With the help of others, you will make rice, soup, and several side dishes to complete the dish. After that, you will plate the food and eat it. It is a meal of one soup and five side dishes. We will serve matcha tea after the meal. Please feel free to ask any questions about Japanese cuisine, utensils, culture, etc. We will speak in both English and Japanese so that you can communicate. We hope you will have a fun time.

This was a great experience! We wanted an intimate setting and the small group class was perfect as there were only three of us! Haneta was accommodating regarding our dietary choices and was curious about our experiences cooking with the ingredients. Each step of the meal preparation was thoughtfully explained and engaged. The language barrier was a nonissue since two of us could speak a little Japanese and Haneka’s English was quite good! We would highly recommend this personalized non-touristy experience!

We had a wonderful time at Iku’s Japanese cooking class in Kyoto. Visiting with my family, we were looking for something authentic—and this experience exceeded expectations. Iku was warm, knowledgeable, and guided us through traditional techniques and ingredients with great care. Everything from preparation to presentation felt true to Japanese home cooking, and we appreciated the personal touch she brought to the session. It was not only a delicious experience but also a meaningful cultural one. Highly recommended for anyone wanting a genuine taste of Japan.

This food workshop was excellent, I had a lot of fun. The menu of the class consists of miso soup and five other dishes, all based on vegetables. Ikumi really took the time to explain us how to cook and how to use the basic ingredients of the Japanese cuisine, and more precisely of shojin ryori which is the Buddhist cuisine. So I recommend this workshop for everyone who wants to learn more about Japanese cooking. Thank you Ikumi for sharing your knowledge with us and also thank you for your amazing energy!

A new class has started so I joined it with my friend. The class consisted of the teacher cooking very professionally, and we watched, took notes, tasted, and even got to try it out a little. After we finished cooking meals, we all got to eat it. The teacher was very kind, and although she is Japanese, she made an effort to speak English. If you use a translation app, you will be able to understand her techniques without any problems. After the meal, we were also treated to matcha and Japanese sweets, which was very impressive! It was a wonderful experience that was worth more than what we paid. Thank you very much, Iku. What a wonderful day in Kyoto♡
