Visit 2 cities in one day trip from Bangkok.
During this tour we will visit some historical temples in Ayutthaya and afterwards continue to Lopburi to visit the famous monkey-temple.
Ayutthaya, a kingdom that existed from 1350 to 1767, is a fantastic destination for culture lovers. During these four centuries, the country grew into the nation of Siam (the former name of Thailand), which roughly occupied the territory of modern Thailand, with the exception of the Lanna kingdom in northern Thailand.
Lopburi is one of Thailand’s oldest cities, being inhabited continuously since the Dvaravati era, that started 15 centuries ago. During the 10th century Lopburi became part of the Khmer empire. The Khmers built a number of impressive monuments, many of which still exist today.
During the reign of King Narai the Great in the second half of the 17th century, Lopburi was made the second capital of the Ayutthaya Kingdom.

Regarding our visit to Lopburi: You must always remember that, no matter what, monkeys are wild animals, not pets. Even though they may look cute, especially the young ones, we always recommend to keep your distance, not bring any food with you and keep all your belongings in your bag. You don't need to come close as it’s just as fun to watch the monkeys from a distance.
There are still monkeys around Phra Prang Sam Yot in Lopburi, but fewer than in the past. Many were relocated by authorities due to overpopulation. Please note that Lopburi is not a zoo; the monkeys are wild and roam freely, so sightings cannot be guaranteed.
Bangkok’s traffic is often notoriously congested, so we kindly ask all guests to arrive on time. As our tours run on a group basis, we can wait a maximum of 10 minutes after the scheduled meeting time. After this grace period, the guide will begin the tour. If you cannot make it on time, please let us know before the tour starts. If possible, we’ll do our best to reschedule you for the next available day, though a rescheduling fee of THB 500 per person will apply.
Cancellations made at least 24 hours before the tour start time are eligible for a full refund. For cancellations made less than 24 hours in advance or in case of no-show, no refund will be issued. Cancellations due to weather are not eligible for a refund.
We provide hotel pick-up only from accommodations located on/near Khao San Road and on Siam Square. If you are not an actual guest at one of the hotels in our pick-up list, the designated meeting point will be our office on Chao Khamrop Road in Chinatown. IMPORTANT: The exact pick-up time will be sent to you via private message on the booking platform one day before the tour. Depending on the number of participants, hotel pick-up will be between 7:30 - 8:00 hrs). Please check your email (including junk folder) carefully the day before your tour to avoid any delays or missed departures.
For a full refund, cancel at least 24 hours before the scheduled departure time.
Phra Prang Sam Yot
The Phra Prang Sam Yot was built when Lopburi was under the control of the Khmer empire from Angkor. The monument was likely founded in the late 12th or early 13th century. Phra Prang Sam Yot is Lopburi’s best known landmark and one of its oldest. It is one of several monuments that date back to the Khmer era. The monument in the center of Lopburi town is perhaps best known for the large number of monkeys that run around free, constantly on the lookout for food. Please note: Entrance fee of THB 80 per person is not included and has to be paid cash. The total duration includes traveling time from Ayutthaya to Lopburi.
Lopburi Province
This history-rich city has more to offer than just cheeky monkeys! Walking around the old town, you’ll discover ancient Khmer-style temple ruins, Buddhist temples with gleaming Buddha statues, and you’ll be deeply immersed in the unique local Thai atmosphere. The total duration includes traveling time from Lopburi back to Bangkok.

Our guide was very friendly and knowledgeable. Piya is very knowledgeable about the history off his country and very enthusiastic about showing us the site.I would highly recommend. The drive was pleasant and excellent at navigating the road. The van was great with great a/c and roomy. The Monkeys was the highlight and also we had a great Thai lunch. Thank you team!

Overall we enjoyed this tour but there is room for improvement. The van was comfortable and the hotel pickup was flawless. Lopburi is a very long drive from Bangkok and unfortunately there are no longer any monkeys at the monkey temple. However, we did see a few monkeys around town and I enjoyed seeing the small Khmer era temple ruins. On our drive to Ayutthaya, our guide took us to a park that had a lot of monkeys. He fed them and we were able to get close and take some great pictures. It was a lot of fun to walk among the monkeys and watch them play in the water! However, this stop was very brief and we would have liked more time with the monkeys. Since our monkey experience was much closer to Ayutthaya, I feel like Lopburi could be skipped unless you have a particular interest in the Khmer ruins. Perhaps WanderSiam should consider a version of the tour that includes the nearby monkeys instead of trekking out to Lopburi. As someone who loves ruins and ancient sites, Ayutthaya was spectacular and a must see! However, be prepared for a lot of sun and sweltering heat. Our guide was friendly and seemed generally knowledgeable, but the language barrier made him difficult to understand. We had to prompt him with a lot of questions and did not learn as much as we would have liked. I ended up reading a lot about Ayuttthaya on my phone to fill in the gaps. Your experience may vary depending on what guide you get. In summary, we were still glad we booked this tour, but would have liked more monkey time and more historical information.

Loved seeing the ancient temples. Guide took us to another location to see the monkeys because they have removed most of them from Lopburi. They were getting to be a nuisance.

Honestly, it felt like he didn’t really know much about the places we went. On top of that, his English was very limited, so understanding him was a struggle. We ended up relying on Google Translate just to exchange basic information, which made simple communication harder than it needed to be.

Great experience, the guide John and the driver Mai were at the top and are very nice! I discovered more about Ayutthaya’s history and I could see the monkeys! I was lucky because I was alone in the tour so private guided tour:)
