In addition to the tour as outlined, we will help you make a good hotel choice, make restaurant reservations, provide insight on local attractions, and efficiently use your time over a two-day period.

Jackson Square

We will visit the Cabildo, St. Louis Cathedral, the Presbytre, and the Pontalba Apartments and discuss the founding of the city and the who were influential in its development and preservation.

We will visit the place D'Arms Hotel courtyard to discuss the transfer of New Orleans to Spain, architecture and cultural diversity.

St. Louis Cathedral

St. Anthony's Garden is behind the church; there we discuss everything from the social system of placage, to the Battle of New Orleans, Voudoo and cultural traditions.

Royal Street Mall

Here we discuss the royal governors who lived here, antiques, the Louisiana Purchase, visit the Louisiana Supreme Court and discuss the preservation efforts that saved New Orleans from modern "progress".

We will visit one of the surviving factories in the French Quarter and watch artisans hand-make gas light fixtures as they did 100 years ago.

He will we visit the largest slave auction in the US and discuss slavery and defense plans for the Battle of New Orleans. This stop today is a restaurant and we are likely to remain outside when talking about the history that was made here, unless we decide to eat here.

Here we discuss Napoleon Bonaparte, the history of the building, Pimm's Cup drinks and local food favorites. This is a restaurant, so we will discuss it outside unless we stop for drinks or lunch/

New Orleans Pharmacy Museum

Here we discuss the history of Pharmacy in New Orleans, both before and after standardized licensing of pharmacists. Here we discuss the development of pharmacy as a regulated industry and the first registered pharmacist in the US.

Here we will have lunch and try some local favorites. The cost of food, drinks, and gratuities are not included. Note: Due to post-pandemic crowds, we may choose to eat elsewhere.

Here we will take a Jazz cruise on the Mississippi River and discuss the reasons for the founding of New Orleans and the development of New Orleans as a major world port. Because of changing sailing times, river conditions and possible scheduling conflicts with other activities, we reserve the right to take part in an alternate attraction.

We will conduct a food tasting tour in lieu of dinner. We will make two stops to sample local food and dessert favorites. We usually stop at Tableau Restaurant and Napoleon House depending on availability.

Faubourg Marigny

We visit the first suburb of New Orleans, Frenchmen Street and discuss the social system of Placage, slavery, and music.

St. Louis Cemetery No. 3

Here we visit a cemetery and discuss the practical reasons for above-ground burials that make New Orleans cemeteries so unique. Depending on weather and other factors, we may substitute another cemetery.

We visit City Park, a park twice the size of Centra Park in New York. We discuss the topography of the region, flooding, hurricanes, major family donations to the city by local citizens and the manufacturing efforts in New Orleans during World War II.

We stop for Cafe' A Lait and beignets at Cafe' Du Monde in City Park. The cost of refreshments is not included.

Here we visit Lake Pontchartrain where Hurricane Katrina breached the levee system. We discuss the causes of the destruction during Hurricane Katrina and explain what has been done to prevent another tragedy.

Audubon Park

Here we visit the park where the process of granulating white sugar was developed, Audubon Zoo,Tulane and Loyola Universities in Uptown New Orleans along St. Charles Avenue.

Garden District

We enter the American Sector, the area built by northeastern Americans after the Louisiana Purchase in 1803. Depending on the size of our tour vehicle, we will either walk or drive through the Garden District to view the historic antebellum homes in what many people say is the nicest neighborhod of New Orleans.

Lafayette Square

Here we visit the central business district of New Orleans, to include the World War II museum, Superdome Warehouse DIstrict and Gallier Hall.

We will have lunch here or another restaurant depending on availability and food preferences. The cost of food is not included in the tour fee,

Here we will take a swamp cruise to see the swamp itself in addition to wildlife such as alligators, eagles, pigs, deer, turtles, snakes, raccoons and other wildlife. We will return to the city around 5pm. You will be encouraged to rest from 5-7pm. We sail at the discretion of the boat captain, weather permitting.

Fritzel's European Jazz Bar

This is our first stop to listen to music, usually Jazz. Keep in mind that there are many forms of Jazz and the goal here is to expose you to different styles of music and venues that are common in New Orleans. There is no admission but you will be required to buy one drink per set, per person. Cost of drinks not included in tour fee.

Maison Bourbon Jazz Club

This is our second stop to listen to music. There is no cover charge, but they require one drink per person, per set. Drinks prices are reasonable unless you choose something more expensive. Cost of drinks is not included in tour fee. We may move to another venue, depending on the style or quality of music.

The Jazz Playhouse

Here we may visit or third music venue of the evening. This usually is the most progressive of jazz styles and the only venue that serves food. As with the other venues, there is no cover charge, but one drink is required per set, per person.
