Jabal Shams Oman Guide
Jebel Shams, Oman’s highest peak at 3,009 meters, mesmerizes travelers with its breathtaking views and rugged terrain in the Al Hajar Mountains. Known for “Wadi Nakhr,” the region’s grandest canyon, its deep chasm offers jaw-dropping vistas akin to an Omani “Grand Canyon.” The cool climate, especially at dawn and dusk, refreshes the senses, while sunset hues paint the mountain in enchanting colors. Small villages like Al Khateem and Al Madyan add cultural charm with their traditional stone houses. **Hiking** in Jebel Shams captivates with trails like the “Balcony Walk” (W6), where travelers trace the canyon’s edge, soaking in sheer cliffs and raw landscapes. The route blends challenge and thrill, with stops to savor silence and crisp air. Other trails, like W4 to the summit, offer longer adventures with sweeping views, making every step a delightful mix of stunning nature and discovery.

At my request the tour was slightly changed. As it was a Friday I wanted to visit the Omani Goat Market at Nizwa this meant a 4am start for me! This was worth every minute, I got to experience the true authentic Omani Fridays at Nizwa and learn about how integral goats are to the culture. As well as this I got to see first hand a hectic auction, there was definitely method to the madness. After the goat market my kind tour guide took me through Nizwa Souk where we took our time going through all the local produce to the market. We saw many things from Fish to dates to Halwa to pomegranates. After the Nizwa Souk we walked towards Fort Nizwa and the Old market where we got to experience old Capital of Oman. As we arrived early it was not too busy and we had plenty of time to view all the highlights take some picturesque photos. Thank you for a great tour and to a kind tour guide Ali
