It's a day trip to the Utiel-Requena wine region of about 6.5-7 hours. Your guide is a sommelier specialised in Valencian wines, who will tell you about the history of wine in Valencia region, about the grape varieties, and a lot more!
We’ll first go to the village of Requena, where we’ll visit some 9th century caves. These were used for storing grains, oil and wine; the old clay pots are still there. Here we’ll do a first wine tasting...
Our next stop is an authentic 19th century winery, where we'll go into the vineyards, then through the winery, following the wine making process from "grape to bottle". We end with a tasting of some of their wines.
For lunch we'll go to the village for a complete local lunch with more wine…

I’ve always dreamed of crushing grapes with my feet, just like in The Taming of the Scoundrel with Adriano Celentano. During the tour, that dream came true — we picked the grapes straight from the vines, pressed them barefoot, and discovered the fascinating art and sounds of winemaking. The experience culminated in a delightful lunch and tasting of various wines, shared in wonderful company. A beautifully organized event and a perfect way to dive into the rich history of Spanish winemaking.

My husband and I were on a cruise and we only had 8 hrs to spend in the Port City of Valencia. Johan, our guide and sommelier picked our group of 8 up at the terminal and whisked us off for a beautiful day in the Requina-Utiel wine region. Our first visit was to a historic winery with caves hidden underground that were used to make and store wines in large clay jars, hundreds and hundreds of years ago. Johan led us through the caves explaining the history and process of the wine making from years ago and we then enjoyed a beautiful tasting of several wines. We then went to our next stop, a family owned winery with acres of vineyards in a very picturesque setting. We toured through the winery with Johan explaining the processes and history. Our time ended with lunch and a table set for us under the trees, over looking the valley and vineyards towards Utiel. The view was amazing and the food and wine were absolutely delicious! This was an experience to remember. Thank you, Johan for not only sharing your knowledge of the wines and the region with us but for creating an experience that we will always remember. It was a pleasure to meet and spend the day with you. I hope that we will have the opportunity to do this with you again someday.

We had an absolutely amazing time on our wine tour in the Requena region outside of Valencia! The owner/guide, Johan, who is also a certified sommelier, made the entire experience unforgettable. His knowledge, passion, and warm personality added so much depth to the day. He took us to two beautiful wineries and had lunch at a local restaurant in town. Each stop was unique and intimate, with delicious wines. We learned so much—not just about wine tasting, but about the history, terroir, and culture of the region. The wines were incredible (we definitely brought some home!), and the pacing of the tour was perfect—relaxed, informative, and fun. This was the highlight of our trip to Spain, and we can’t recommend it enough. If you’re a wine lover—or even just curious—this is a must-do experience in the Valencia region! 🍷✨

We had an excellent tour with Johan. We were a group of six girls and from start to finish we had an incredible time. It was very educational, but also really generous in terms of the wine and food on offer. Thank you so much Johan, this was a real highlight of our time in Valencia!

Johan is a very personable and knowledgeable guide to the Valencian wine-making countryside. He drove us to Requena to experience the old town and remarkable caves and then to the winery at Casa de don Angel near Utiel for a lovely tour from vineyard to wine making and tasting of roses and Bobals on a terrace overlooking the town. Afterwards we had a relaxing 4-plate lunch at El Vegano in Utiel.
