Sloth’s Territory is a private reserve located in El Tanque, less than 10 minutes away from La Fortuna downtown (Arenal Volcano).
The place, managed by the Rodriguez Perez Family, it’s a truly gem with vibrant flora & fauna.
The observation hike, a truly enigmatic experience is developed through a safe path. this trail runs the reserve along La Havana River, and offers the opportunity to observe many kind of animals in it’s natural habitat.
Two & three-toed sloths, opossums, red frogs, porcupines, different kind of birds such as; Toucans, Tanagers, Royal Flycatchers, Hummingbirds, Parrots, Honeycreepers, Cinnamon Woodpeckers, enrich the activity.
Our expert guide will carefully show you, all our different attractions and will give you through a unique lifetime experience.
The tour includes a trained guide during the whole hike with professional telescope and it finish with a break to enjoy our more selected seasonal fruits (most of them from our organic field).

For our night hike starting at 6:00pm, it is the best time to look for animals with nocturnal behavior. During this hike, you will have the chance to see different kind of frogs, kinkajous, snakes, spiders, bats and eventually: two and three-toed sloths (but it is not the focus of this specific hike). While the night starts and the sky gets full of stars, our well-trained guide will keep you safe while you continue the hike through our property. The trail is accessible for all ages, so this is an activity where the whole family can enjoy it. The duration of this activity is 1 and a half to 2 hours. The tour includes a trained guide during the whole hike, with professional equipment, a flashlight for each participant and we finish as well with a break of enjoying fresh seasonal fruits. What to bring: •insect repellent •light clothes •rain gear.

5.00We LOVED our sloth tour. Our guide (cannot believe I’m forgetting her name!) was outstanding. So helpful, patient and ensured all of us saw sloths and got photos and videos. It was beyond all expectations. We lost count but maybe 9 sloths and 2 mommas w babies. Absolutely recommend this tour.

5.00Very relaxed and informative tour where we got to see sloths, hummingbirds, iguanas and monkeys up close. The guide took her time and let us view through the telescope and take pictures which turned out beautiful. Highly recommend!

5.00This was AMAZING! Ivania was our lovely tour guide, and it was obvious how passionate she was about these sloths and making sure we had the best experience. We got very lucky and saw 3 sets of mamas with their babies, and we got to see them on the move too. We also saw a ton of dart frogs, incredible birds, and more. Would highly recommend this tour!

5.00Our guide Edson was fantastic in spotting animals in their natural environment. The Sloth Territory is such a beautiful place. Plan on an easy hike around to spot sloths and monkeys.

5.00Ruben, was a very charming and knowledgeable tour guide. In total, we saw 10 sloths. Four of the sloths were mamas with babies. Ruben was so good at explaining how to spot the sloths that each person in our party was able to point them out along the way as he quizzed us. We also saw several frogs, a couple of chachalacas, and an abundance of beautiful scenery. The best part was the small size of our group. There were only five of us plus Ruben, a mom with her two kids, my husband, and me. This was likely because we booked one of the first tours of the day, so if you want a smaller group size maybe go at 8 or 9 like we did. Overall, the tour met or exceeded our expectations and we will definitely recommend it to others!
