We are the only company that offers an authentic night hike inside the Rainforest, at the base of the majestic Arenal Volcano. In addition, we are the only local company certified as Family & Kids Friendly, ideal for family enjoyment and suitable for all ages.

This experience takes place in a 100% natural environment, it is not a controlled environment. The animals live in complete freedom, so each walk is different and sightings may vary every night.

Accompanied by an expert naturalist guide, we will explore the trails of Mirador El Silencio.

During the tour we will look for frogs such as the hourglass, Blue Jeans and the iconic red-eyed frog. It is also possible to observe exotic insects, reptiles and snakes. With any luck, we can find mammals like sloths, possums or anteaters.

To enjoy this experience safely, it is essential to use closed shoe.

What To Expect

Mirador El Silencio

Get into one of Costa Rica’s most iconic forests with our La Fortuna Night Tour, an experience that begins promptly at 5:30 p.m. and invites you to discover the magic of the rainforest at the foot of the imposing Arenal Volcano. During this guided walk you will learn about the geological history that shaped our country, the influence of volcanoes on the local ecosystem and the particularities of the climate of the area. As night falls, the jungle awakens and you can observe the incredible flora and nocturnal fauna of La Fortuna. Among the animals we usually find fascinating amphibians and reptiles such as crystal frogs, tree frogs, rain frogs, wet forest toads and the great cane toad; in addition to snakes such as coral, muzzle, stone hand and the well-known velvet. It is also possible to observe mammals such as coati, armadillos, possums, howler monkeys, white-faced monkeys and squirrel monkeys.

Our tour guide, Harvin, is an amazing and knowledgeable person who led our group on the night tour. He could answer any question we were interested in and always expanded on topics we wanted to learn more about. He is very experienced at finding animals that live in the rainforest—it seemed like he was part of the forest itself and knew all its secrets. We had so much fun and learned a lot from him. The diverse wildlife we saw in La Fortuna, Costa Rica, under Harvin’s guidance will have a lasting impact on our kids’ interests in nature. We strongly recommend this tour and our guide, Harvin!

It was a little disorganized at the beginning and the end without a lot of guidance on where to go and what would happen. Seemed like they had too big of a crowd to manage. The pickup bus was overbooked. The tour itself was anticlimactic as we only saw basic animals like frogs, spiders, and a couple snakes. No monkey's, sloths, or other animals. Our tour guide tried his best to keep it interesting but we kept seeing the same thing or nothing for long stretches.

We (family of 4) went into this "Night Walk" experience with high expectations of seeing nocturnal animals. Unfortunately, the reality fell quite short for the price we paid. While the forest atmosphere at night was a bit thrilling, the actual sightings were very limited. Over the course of the 1 1/2 hour trek, our group only managed to spot: a few small frogs and spiders. They weren't exactly the "rare sightings" to expect for the price of the tour. The guide was friendly, but even their expertise couldn't make up for the lack of activity. If you're looking for a simple, quiet walk in the dark, this might suit you—but if you’re hoping for a best moment of the trip, you might find yourself disappointed.

Wildlife were predictable so you are not guaranteed to see everything easily. We spent the first hour walking in the dark and didn't see much. Mainly just more common insects like grasshoppers, crickets and and spiders. We saw some amazing snakes and frogs towards the end of the trip near the swamp and it was cool. We just felt that the hike could have been shorter. We spent lot of time walking quickly without being able to see much.

Excellent communication before the tour. The guide was amazing. Lots of information and he spotted so many tiny frogs. He was also great at taking everyone’s phones and taking excellent pictures close up.
