The Cu Chi tunnels were good. Worth visiting. Don’t go in the tunnels if you get claustrophobic! Wear lots of mosquito repellent. The tunnels are located in dense foliage (jungle). We had a good day in general but we did the city tour in the morning. We stopped at the Norte Dame cathedral but as it’s being renovated it’s completely covered in scaffolding so would have been better for the tour operator to provide an alternative. We then went to Independence Palace. We spent around an hour here which we feel was too long. Essentially it’s a 1960’s interior with lots of furnished rooms and not much information. However the palace has quite a lot of historical significance relating to the Vietnam war. We then went to the War Museum where we were only given 30 minutes to look around three floors of history. We only managed one floor in this time. Even an hour wouldn’t have been long enough. We then went to a temple. We also stopped off at a factory where they make hand made paintings with crushed egg shells. Beautiful, but pricey. We then stopped for lunch. The restaurant was a bit disappointing, given all the incredible places to eat. The food was average. I’m not saying I wouldn’t recommend the city tour, our guide was pleasant and knowledgeable, but we feel he could have given more information. For example, at each place he just let us wander around but he could have shown us some of the more interesting artefacts and elaborated further. Which would have enriched the experience. It’s not bad value but note that all the stops are within a short distance of each other and are easily walkable. Although it’s apparently not customary to tip here, if you don’t tip people, they will ask you to tip them. We’ve spent a small fortune tipping since we’ve been here. So you need to tip the driver and the guide separately.
