This is your opportunity to relish your experience and bonding with Greek culture. Meet Tania, an experienced traditional dances teacher and let yourself in a journey to discover authentic greek traditional dances under the sun in the ancient hill of Philopappou.

Circular dances originated in ancient Greece and date back to around 2000 years B.C in minoan civilization in Crete. From that time the dances have been kept alive, not only preserved, but also evolving and adapting through eras and different cultures and passing from families to villages and whole regions as a living thing. Back to today, you have the chance to take this trip to tradition in the ancient hill of filopappou next to ancient ruins, learning step by step to dance accompanied with other people hand by hand, let yourself be driven by the rhythm of the music, discover the true hidden meaning of these cyclical traditional dances and feel the chill to your bones that this unique experience will grant you.

What To Expect

You will meet with Tania, an experienced traditional dances teacher,at the main entrance of Philoppapou ancient hill. Once the group gathers, she will lead you through a 10 minutes walking route with a view of Acropolis to the beautiful spot inside the nature of the hill where your course begins. During these two and a half hours Tania will teach you to dance some real traditional dances, characteristic of main regions of Greece.

This was a fantastic experience learning about Greek traditional dances from different regions. Our guides were wonderful – knowledgeable and great teachers. It was so much fun to learn these dances with other travellers. I would recommend this dance class to anyone. Very professional and authentic.

The danceworkshop was really amazing. The location was cute and private. The teachers were very nice and supportive. We could go al out and let our enthousiasm show. Besides learning the beautiful dances we also learned some new stuff about the Amazing history of Greece. In conclusion, we had a wonderful time and would really recommend planning this for your trip to Athens.

What a wonderful, fun dance class with Tania and Kostas. Dancing on a hill with the Acropolis in front of us was the ultimate, enough to want to shout "Opa" during the the dancing. We learned 5-6 dances and became a little community with all the participants. Thank you, Tania and Kostas for your fun dance lessons. Everyone should do this on their trip to Athens!!

Our instructors were amazing ! And we had so much fun learning about different types of Greek dances. It was also a great workout. I loved the energy of our instructors , they were so kind and patient with us. For those who'd love to try and get hands on experience with what it's like to be a part of Greek community, take this class !!

Tania's class was very interesting and full of cultural insights. Tania and Kostas made us feel at ease right away, and welcomed us very warmly. Above all, we had a lot of fun! Tania prepared us so well that after the class we were able to dance in a tavern like authentic locals! highly recommended, if we visit again Athens we will definitely come back.

We joined the dancing with a family with 3 children at the age of 10 to 14. We learned different traditional dance styles, with basic steps, and also learned the background of the dances and where they came from. A nice and advisable experience in addition to all the other cultural sights.

Tania and her partner were fantastic. We learned 6-7 traditional Greek dances and their history as well. We could see the Acropolis from the beautiful, quiet church and park where we danced. It was a highlight of my 15-day trip to Greece. I’d do it again and recommend it to everyone!
