This dinner felt like an intimate group of friends gathering at a "locals-only" hole in the wall restaurant, away from the other tourists in Edinburgh. Our host, Maya, was very friendly and offered interesting history and context about each course of the meal. The food itself was absolutely delicious!

Maya was enthusiastic and knowledgeable. The food was good. But huge complaint was the loudness of the venue; could not hear half of what the guide was saying.

Maya was a great tour guide. She gave us history and background of the food and Scotland. I even tried Haggis, it was okay!

Noah was our guide in sampling 5 different Scottish dishes and four drinks at an amazing restaurant, the Wighams Wine Cellar. We had a small table in a nook for the evening and he talked about Scottish history and culture while the dishes were served oveer the course of the evening, to include We get served 5 dishes, Loch Fyne Oysters (amazing), a salad, Cullen Skink (amazing also), cod with potatoes, haggis croquettes and sticky pudding, plus a glass of Bordeaux, a beer, and a dram of whiskey. We had a great time.

I’m sorry to say I would not recommend this tour. Our guide had a very thick Spanish accent and it was very hard to hear and understand what he was saying - even acknowledged by him. We thought it was a bit out of place being that the entire group spoke English. In addition, he was very aloof and hardly spoke to my group. Rather he sat at one end of the table and only really spoke to that end, not coming over to ours except to rudely ask for a tip. I thought it was presumptuous and rude to walk over with a square reader asking for money, but not explaining himself. I had to ask multiple times, what am I paying for, before we finally got to the point that it was a tip. I would hope that tip went to the resturant staff considering he did nothing but walk us around the corner and babysit us. It was advertised we’d get 4 drinks, we had 3. The food was a hit or miss. I would recommend that for this cost you’d take the money, go to a restaurant, and order 2-3 courses. There was nothing that made this special or worthy of a recommendation.

Heather was a delight to be with. She gave us the food history of the Scottish and how it evolved over the hundreds of years. We enjoyed chatting with her over the different Scottish dishes and drinks. She possessed a wealth of knowledge integrating the historical culture, religion and how food was introduced. This was the first tour where we shared an intimate setting and the different foods and drink (wine, beer, whiskey) were consumed at one location. We enjoyed having the one-on-one focused time to ask questions about the area, history of the sites we saw while exploring, and receiving suggestions about areas to visit. We definitely recommend Heather and this tour for anyone that enjoys breaking bread with amazing food and historical tidbits!
