Come with us for your Aurora hunt for an amazing and ethical experience underneath the Aurora Borealis. Leave the light pollution in Tromsø behind and travel into the Arctic wilderness. During this tour, our small team of Aurora guides check the forecasts & use local knowledge to decide on the best place to chase the Northern Lights. When we find the best spot, we will dress in warm thermal suits and boots, make a cosy campfire, and enjoy a homemade meal.
You'll be shown how to use your camera, photograph the Aurora, and our guides will take photos of you, available for free in web-sized resolution after the tour.
During our time together in the wilderness, we will collect data for a citizen science project and help protect the Arctic nature through responsible tourism.
Enjoy our hot chocolate before being returned to Tromsø island to your hotel. Though there is never a guarantee of seeing this phenomenon, our experienced team will do their best every night of the season.

I had a wonderful experience, I’m truly happy I chose Wandering Owl. Magda and Iliyan took very good care of us and made sure that we were comfortable during the whole activity. We went to this amazingly beautiful valley and got plenty of time to enjoy the lights. Magda is also a very good storyteller and kept us entertained with quizes and stories about the Sami and the Vikings.

Wandering Owl is an excellent agency to see the Northern Lights. Isaac, our guide, and Michael, our driver, left no stone unturned to ensure that we see the Aurora despite a night with almost continuous snow shower. They spotted places and gaps in the cloud cover to find us an amazing display.

An amazing experience with Wandering Owl. Guide Magda and driver Michael were fantastic — friendly, knowledgeable, and fully committed to finding the best aurora views. The campfire and warm soup created a cozy atmosphere, and the winter gear made the night comfortable. An excellent trip and a real highlight in Tromsø!

Our Aurora hunt unfortunately didn’t bring us our trip of a lifetime experience. Our guide Max did his best trying to find the Aurora but rain and cloud meant it wasn’t meant to be. Max was very knowledgeable and although we were slightly disappointed, that is Mother Nature.

Absolutely brilliant. Tour guides were amazing. I asked a lot of questions before the trip and the team were really accommodating and professional providing the information requested. We almost didn’t see the lights but our guides expertise got us there last minute. Delighted as it was a special trip.

Fabulous evening with our guide, Coen, and driver, Michael. The commentary on the drive to our first viewing spot was excellent—friendly, engaging, and full of interesting insights. We stopped in an area called Hansnes, where Coen kindly took photos of everyone, though we all managed to capture some gorgeous shots of the lights ourselves. They served delicious homemade vegetable soup with bread and built a lovely warm campfire, which was perfect for thawing out our frozen fingers! We then drove for another hour in search of clearer skies, but the clouds rolled in, so we didn’t see the lights again. It truly is aurora chasing—thankfully we’d had that beautiful display at the first stop. To finish, we enjoyed hot chocolate and cookies before being dropped back at our hotel around 1 a.m. Having done a similar tour the previous night with another company, I can honestly say I highly recommend Wandering Owl!

Went out with Mia and Chris and had a blast. We saw the lights in two spots and the food and bonfire were very fun! We had such a good time, we booked another night of Northern Lights hunting with Wandering Owl. Highly recommend!

So glad we booked this tour! Even with very snowy and cloudy weather conditions...Michael and Coen managed to get us to some openings to see the Auroras! You can't control the weather and it wasn't ideal but we were lucky to get to see them anyway. They fed us some yummy soup and Coen also had a good camera to take some nice photos. Coen was a very fun guide and he got out at multiple stops along the way to check the conditions. Even after we saw some lights he still tried to get us to more. You can tell they really try their best and we were grateful! Thank you Michael and Coen!!
