Come with us for your small-group Aurora hunt for an ethical experience chasing the Aurora Borealis. Leave the light pollution in Tromsø behind and travel into the Arctic wilderness. Our guides use forecasts and local knowledge to decide on the best place to chase the Northern Lights. When we find the best spot, we will dress in warm thermal suits and boots, make a cosy campfire, and enjoy a homemade meal. During the tour, your guide will take photos of you, which will be available for free in web-sized resolution after the tour.
During our time together in the wilderness, we will collect data for a citizen science project and help protect the Arctic nature through responsible tourism.
Relax by the fire with hot chocolate before returning to Tromsø island to your hotel. Though there is never a guarantee of seeing this phenomenon, our Aurora Hunters will do their best every night of the season. Increase your chances of seeing the Northern Lights by joining on multiple evenings.

I joined Wandering Owl for three nights in a row chasing the Northern Lights, and it was an incredible experience from start to finish. Each night was different — one more challenging, one magical, and the last one absolutely breathtaking. The guides were professional, patient, and genuinely passionate about what they do. You can feel they truly care about giving everyone the best possible experience, regardless of weather or luck. After three nights, I can honestly say they are one of the best teams I’ve ever traveled with. Highly recommended for anyone serious about seeing the aurora — and doing it with people who love what they do.

The tour was excellent! Our guide, Mia, and driver, Michael, were fantastic! They actually delayed our tour a couple of hours later into the evening to optimize our chances to see the lights as it was quite cloudy over Tromso. There were 9 guests on our tour. We drove about 2.5 hours outside of Tromso. Michael got us to our destination safely. We then set up our camp in a field. We were skeptical that we’d be able to see the lights as we had unfavorable conditions. However, Mia and Michael were able to take us to a spot where the clouds cleared, and we were able to see the lights dance. Mia was very knowledgeable, well-spoken, and kind. Overall, the tour was very organized and maximized our time.

We had a great night where we went out with a small bus to find the northern lights. We found that in a beautiful location on a fjord, with campfire, delicious soup, hot drinks and homemade cookies. The guide had a lot of knowledge and was eager to share and answer questions. What a magical evening!

Book an aurora tour through Viator with a guide in Spanish. Enterprise doing the tour was wandering Owl. The surprise was that when the day of the tour arrives the guide is in English and we spend 5 hours listening to explanations that we did not understand. I place the claim and wandering Owl is disengaged, then I contact Viator and everything is facilities and apologies and refund the full amount of the excursion. I have no doubt that I will continue to hire excursions with Viator as they have proven to be professionals

Where do I begin? From start to finish the abs”owl”utely best experience. We researched before visiting Tromso and saw great revenues for Wandering Owl and now we know why. We wanted a smaller adults only group and it was well worth it. Expertly led by Evgeni who made sure the group connected on the journey creating a fun, inclusive, and highly informative tour. We were blessed with the most amazing light show on the evening we went so we’re very lucky but the locations were perfect and after a few stops along the way as the lights appeared we ended up on a beach with camp fire, delicious warm soup and hot chocolate to keep us warm as we enjoyed it with a fabulous backdrop. What a hoot! Do not think twice!

This was a truly wonderful experience. Aneta was a great guide and not only made the trip enjoyable but she showed us how to take pictures in addition to taking endless pictures of everyone. Coen and Chris also made it a great experience. Would definitely recommend this tour.

Every single thing about this adventure was top notch! Our guide Evgeni was friendly and clearly knew his stuff about the northern lights (including the science and the history), plus he was experienced and had good instincts as to where to find the lights because we found them and they were spectacular! All of the other details were thoughtful and well-planned, including polar suits to fight the cold, camp chairs and fire, we started/ended on time, and I can’t say enough about the homemade vegetable soup - thank you to the cook as it was delicious! So, to sum it up, I highly recommend this experience!

Great small group tour. Weather did not look promising but our guide Yevgeny found an ideal spot after about 2 hours drive. We saw amazing auroral activity against clear skies for about 3 hours. Hot soup, hot chocolate and cookies kept us going. Can definitely recommend.

Magda and Michael were absolutely amazing! It was tough conditions with rain, anow, and clouds a s they still found a way to get us out to clear skies to see some amazing light. They were both amazingly friendly and welcoming and I would recommend them and their team to all of my friends.
