Step into the world of classic anime production! Located in Kami-Igusa, a historic anime production district in Tokyo. In this workshop, you’ll experience how animation was made before computers — using real cel sheets, special paints, and traditional tools. You’ll paint two layers of cels, just like how classic anime created movement — for example, a character’s face and mouth, or overlapping waves and boats. By completing both, you’ll feel how animators once brought drawings to life frame by frame. Each session is taught by a professional anime color artist who used to work with hand-painted cels and is still active in anime production today. You’ll learn directly from someone who truly knows how the craft evolved. You’ll use the same kind of paints and tools that professionals once used in studio production — smooth brush strokes, vibrant colors, and the soft rustle of the cel sheet under your hand. Whether you’re an anime fan or simply curious about Japanese culture, this is a rare chance to create your own hand-painted cel and discover how traditional craftsmanship shaped modern anime. Many participants say, “After this, I’ll never watch anime the same way again.”
