Centro Storico Orvieto
Leave Rome and travel north by air-conditioned coach, following the River Tiber toward Tuscany. After roughly 1.5 hours on the road, you’ll arrive in the gorgeous town of Orvieto. Seemingly sprouting out of the volcanic rock on which it stands, the hilltop town boasts a history that dates back to Etruscan times. Stretch your legs and walk around the town, seeing highlights like the 14th-century Orvieto Cathedral – a masterpiece of Gothic architecture with a glistening façade of stained glass, mosaics and sculptures. Soak up Orvieto’s charms and admire the countless churches that are scattered around its center.

Meet three Saints in one day. Beautiful town of Assisi that was badly damaged in an earthquake, and has been brought back to its full beauty. I am a 78 year-old male and though there was a lot of walking, I didn’t find it difficult.

Great host, well paced, not rushed. Amazing locations. We enjoyed the casual lunch and the bus was very comfortable.

Assisi is the best part of the trip. The town of Orvieto was nice, but it would have been convenient to have a map of the town - I never found the castle. The Italian market was a reminder of how Italians in small villages eat healthy and not processed. The meal at the restaurant was "okay", there could have been more to eat. I could have done without Orvieto and spent the whole day in Assisi.

The tour name "Assisi and Orvieto Guided Day Tour from Rome with lunch" is a misrepresentation. The tour should be called "Transportation from Rome to Orvieto and Assisi with short guided tour in Assisi with lunch" At the bus the tour guide said we are going to Orvieto. That is all he never explained what Orvieto was, we passed many towns, he never gave any history (all other tours I have taken with Viator the guide always talked about the geography and the history). When we arrive to Orvieto he said this is Orvieto I will meet you here in 45 minutes if you want to enter the church you can buy the tickets. I asked him who would explain about the town and the church, and he said no, no, this is free time (viator guides always explain the places we go, they already have the tickets and they accompany us). Went back to the bus and the guide never said anything until we got to the restaurant. He said we are going to have lunch here. Then we drove to Assisi, again he did not say anything, we passed nice towns but he was just talking to the driver--Claudio, the guide, provided transportation, he did not provide any type of guide. When we got there we were suppose to have a guide for two hours to show us the churches, she was 1/2 late. At the end of the tour we met the guide at the front door, I asked where the bathroom was and he said just go down the steps and I will meet you there, I never so him again, I think the meant a different set of steps. I knew we were meeting at 5.00pm for departure; my husband and I went to the plaza were we waited for the guide, we could not find him we went early to the bus stop were we arrived; the bus was not there; finally, with the help of a taxi driver we went to the train station and bought tickets back to Rome. To our surprise another couple from the same tour also lost the bus, similar circumstances. They explained that he told them to meet at the plaza but they never found him again. Is easy to get lost in these little towns with so many roads, but it is the responsibility of the guide to be clear what the meeting point is in case a person gets lost. The driver, Claudio. call me when I was boarding the train, I guess he asked for my phone, but it was too late. The other couple never heard from him.

This tour was great. We visited the place where St. Claire and St Carlo Acutis are buried. We also visited the Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi.

Orvieto and Assisi. Two places that everyone should visit. Especially if you are Catholic. The towns were fabulous. Our guide was not particularly talkative. The tour was roughly 14 hours long and he only talked for maybe an hour. We had a different specialty guide in Assisi and she was wonderful. Overall it was a long day that was well worth the money.

The narrow streets of this city are beautiful and dangerous. Very pretty. Long bus ride from Rome. Tour guide hard to understand. Walked too fast.
