Did not see the actual changing of the guards at buckingham palace. Instead guide had us observe the guard as on the route to to buckingham palace for the changing of the guard. Did not need a guide for that.

I learned more than I knew before going on the tour. Our guide was patient with our group. He made sure everyone was engaged and had time for questions.

We were delayed arriving in London from Emsworth that morning because of problems on the train tracks, but we took the tube from Waterloo station to Green Park and were just a few minutes late. The rest of our group was about 10 other people. The meeting spot was right in front of the exit from the Green Park tube station, so very easy to find. Daniel took us on a stroll to the Victoria memorial in front of Buckingham Palace, and explained what we were about to see. This was a Sunday morning and seemed very crowded, but I got the impression from Daniel that other days were even more crowded. Weather was ideal--sunny and about 75 degrees. The pomp was enjoyable and Daniel readily answered all our questions. We saw the Nepalese Ghurkas and their band march from the barracks to the palace, play some music at the palace, then march back down the mall to the end of the parade (which we did not see where they ended). After that, we strolled up the north side of the mall, getting info and asking questions until the walk finally ended at a large plaza. We broke up, tipped Daniel, and continued on to our lunch reservation at Buckingham Arms, a pub a few blocks away from the palace. (We had a Sunday roast there--awesome, but that's another story). Totally enjoyable walk. Tips for future travelers: bring water (it's hard to find in the area), and go to the bathroom before you start the walk. Bathrooms are even harder to find in the park or anyplace along the route of the walk.
