Upon entering the church, your guide will begin the story of this incredible feat of engineering that required a whole new process for its construction. Including how, after nearly 200 years of construction, architect Filippo Brunelleschi's innovative approach finally enabled its completion. In addition to learning the history of this magnificent structure, you will also view the beautiful details of its interior including elaborate marble floors, stained-glass windows, and beautiful frescos. Your tour will be capped off by the viewing of Vasari’s famous Last Judgement, which lines the incredible 375 ft high dome. After your thirty-minute guided tour you will have the option to remain and explore the Duomo at your leisure or continue out to the beautiful Piazza del Duomo.
Cupola Del Brunelleschi
The Brunelleschi Dome, part of the Florence Cathedral, is a crowning architectural achievement by Filippo Brunelleschi. Completed in the 15th century, it stands as an engineering marvel, showcasing a double-shell structure with an inner and outer dome. The red-tiled exterior harmonizes with the city's skyline. Make sure to ask you guide where to see the basement if you want to. We left and couldn’t get back in. This is worth it if physically able. You are able to climb the bell tower for free. It’s nice to have a ticket for 72 hours. Wouldn’t recommend doing the bell tower climb close together with duomo climb. Our guide also had a iPad with good demonstrations to up understand what she was talking about. Overall worth it!

It was a large group and minimal information given by tour guide. I would do it without a guide next time.

The guide was animated and very interesting. Best of all, she truly took us right into the duomo, bypassing all lines. Highly recommend.

We were delighted to have the opportunity to take a fast track into the Florence Duomo. Although we chose not to do the climb to the top of the dome, we really appreciated the personal touch our tour guide, Carolina, provided as she explained the intense rivalry between Florence and Siena, the ins and outs of the great works on display in the basilica, and the amazing feat of building the dome itself. It was an experience that was worth the expense.
