This was a fabulous experience. Be prepared, depending on the weather, for less than ideal hiking conditions. The landscape views are breathtaking and the home stay in the community offers insight to their way of life.

Pickup at hotel and transfer to Sapa via sleeper bus was good. However, it is 6 hours each way with 2 bathroom breaks. Lunch on arrival was ok. Very simple. The trek to our homestay with our guide was great, even though the weather was not cooperative, raining and fogged in with very poor visibility. We learned a lot about the culture and community through our conversations. When we arrived at the homestay we were not greeted by a family, nor did we dine with them. Room was basic, with no heat but our trekking guide found a heater to dry our clothes. Our bed did have a heated pad which was great. Slept well. Breakfast was a simple crepe, honey, coffee and watermelon which was made by our trekking guide. We never met any family which was not comfortable for us. Food was very very basic. I expected more of a welcoming experience. Again, thankful for the trekking guide. We opted out of the second hike to another village due to the weather and took a taxi to town for a 2 hour massage and lunch.

Sapa is absolutely stunning - I would definitely put this down as a must visit when in Vietnam. The coach was fairly comfortable and ran on time and the Homestay we stayed at was nice. My only negative was with some of the organisation, on the second day for example it felt like there was a lot of waiting around and it felt a bit chaotic getting back to Hanoi. Overall though the tour was good and we would recommend it.

As much as I liked our host Sue (thank you Sue, you were great, warm and entertaining!), I cannot, however, give a rating above 3 stars as the tour lacked activities, the food was mediocre at best, the ladies that helped us with the trekking when it was super muddy and difficult, were immediately trying to sell things after the trek and when we’d refuse, they showed visual dissatisfaction. Luckily, our group was great and this was pretty much the highlight of the trip as the weather bad. The evening with the ‘happy water’ was great. Oh no more thing to note, all drinks are paid. I would not recommended booking anything longer than 2 days 1 night.
