This was a great experience. Masaki our guide was very knowledgeable and friendly. We had a great time and learnt a lot about the shrine and general area. He also provided great advice on places to eat and other attractions to visit.

The shrine has a deep history, and it is best visited with a tour guide. Hiro did an EXCELLENT job explaining the history, cultural importance, and tradition of the shrine; as well as making us feel incredibly welcome in the country of Japan. He answered every question with confidence and without reservation or judgment. Additionally this shrine is easy to get lost in, so having somebody to guide for navigation alone was worth it, especially at night.

Most of our tour was in proper nighttime, not dusk. Expect to be walking on the mountain paths through the gates in the dark. Vincent was very friendly and knowledgeable. He was also patient while I stopped for photos, which was appreciated. There were definitely still plenty of people around as the tour started, but the numbers dwindled over the course of evening.

I recommend taking this tour to learn more about the shrine. Yessi pointed out things that you would otherwise walk past and not notice. It was very cool to get to learn a bit more about the history. She showed us how to pray at different sites because there are different rituals at each. My tour time was 6pm and was great because it was less crowded and not as hot. The sun did go down shortly after starting but that was ok because the path has lights.
