Kyoto is known to have about 2000 temples and shrines but did you know that Kyoto has about 12000 restaurants among which 110 are Michelin Stars. In Kyoto there is a time to pray and then there is a time to eat. With Secret Food Tours and your host,we will focus on the second part.

Our local guides will teach you the traditions and social functions of Japanese food and how it is important to the Japanese. They will share with you their knowledge about the local food with some unique flavours and textures. Eating in Kyoto is more than providing substance for the body, it also includes an appreciation for custom and tradition for how the food is sourced, prepared, and enjoyed by the local Japanese people.

By booking our Kyoto Karasuma to Gion Food Tour, our food experts will take you on a journey with delicious and mouth-watering local delicacies. As with all our tours, there is a secret dish, which you will only find out about on the day of the tour.

We were disappointed with this tour - poor selection of food - too much fried, not enough fresh. The guide although very sweet was too quiet and did not have strong enough English to provide sufficient detail on meals experienced.

Food was just okay. Guide didn’t have a food background and was soft spoken with okay English. For the price we expected more.

We had a great tour with our guide Yuma! He was very nice and friendly. We enjoyed walking through the market and trying different Japanese food. We started at a restaurant with pork katsu, then we went to the market and tried a variety of foods, then we went to Gion and had the last two dishes. We had katsu, wagyu sushi, strawberry mochi, croquettes, matcha, and more. There was plenty of food through the tour. Even if you don’t like/eat every food throughout the tour, you definitely won’t leave hungry. We had a great time! We’ve done plenty of food tours and this was easily one of our favorites we have been on! Yuma was a great guide and the food was good! We would definitely recommend this tour! :) thank you Yuma!

Disappointing tour. Lot of street food. Don’t think it was value for money. I could have bought the items myself for much less cost. Tour guide very quietly spoken and didn’t offer much in the way of descriptions, history etc.

Tomoro was a great tour guide, I loved the food that we tried, as well as the walk around the markets.
