What comes to mind when you think of Zen?
Before engaging in Zen meditation, a local guide will lead you to a garden where you can immerse yourself in the essence of Zen.
"Zen" is an inherently esoteric Buddhist concept, even for the Japanese. While the word "Zen" may conjure thoughts of Zen meditation, this tour will initially guide you to a garden imbued with Zen principles. Amidst the tranquil setting of the Zen garden, a local guide will provide you with fundamental information on how to appreciate both the garden and the practice of Zen meditation."
Visit Tofukuji Zen Temple, one of the five Great Zen Temples in Kyoto, and partake in a Zen meditation experience.
We will then proceed to Tofukuji Temple, one of the five great Zen temples in Kyoto. Tofukuji boasts a rich history, serving as a residence and Zen practice site for monks since the 13th century.
Following this exploration, we will make our way to a smaller temple within Tofuku-ji dedicated to zazen practice.

This was such a reflective and spiritual day. Our tour guide Yutaka was friendly and felt comfortable talking with him. We learned about his culture and the area. We saw a few Buddhist temples and were able to sit and reflect before going to the main temple where we actually spent some time meditating with a Buddhist priest. If ever you were curious about zazen meditation or Buddhist practices, this is a must do. Then we finished the day having lunch together and it was just wonderful.

The tour with yukasan and the group zen meditation, which was our first one, was an absolute highlight in Kyoto! We learned a lot about Shinto and Buddhism, enjoyed a very quiet temple and relaxed even more in a very authentic zen meditation which we really enjoyed. Afterwards you feel calm and are ready for the busy streets again. Highly recommend this tour and enjoy the delicious shoseki ryouhin lunch set-meal which is just a delight after all the heavy food and smells you are surrounded with in Nishiki market :) Thank you very much much , yukasan!

Amazing time! It was a wonderful experience - learning about Zen lifestyle and practicing Zazen meditation. Everything was very well-organized by our guide, Yutaka. The Kyoto-style lunch was delicious and really big! I didn’t expect to enjoy vegan food this much, but it was absolutely delicious! Overall, this is a must-try experience in Kyoto. I’d recommend going

I highly recommend this tour. It was probably one of our most memorable moments in Kyoto. Hikari was our guide. She was incredibly knowledgeable about the different temples, the organization of them and the history. The tour felt very calm and meditative just from her demeanor and voice. The best part of the tour was the one hour meditation. The monk who led the meditation only spoke Japanese, so Hikari prepped us before with what to expect. There was a brief break in the middle, and she also translated for us some of the additional tips and history he shared. At the end, the monk came over and spoke with us, allowing us to ask any questions which then Hikari translated. This was truly amazing and I highly recommend it if you have any interest in Zen meditation, Buddhism or philosophy and meditation in general.
