What Sets Our Class Apart
At Baekusaeng Makgeolli, we are more than a brewery offering a one-day experience.
We are leaders in creating makgeolli resources for brewers worldwide—through our offline classes, published book, and online courses.
It has been our pleasure to teach students from all over the world, and in every class we:
• Share practical brewing knowledge rooted in traditional methods, using fresh, real ingredients—not simplified shortcuts.
• Train students to continue brewing at home, giving them the confidence and understanding to ferment independently after returning to their countries.
• Encourage experimentation and creativity, helping each student develop their own style and expression of makgeolli.
Our goal is simple but ambitious:
to grow a global community of makgeolli brewers who understand the craft, respect its traditions, and continue brewing long after the class ends.
Join us—and become part of the worldwide makgeolli brewing journey.

Become a Makgeolli Brewer — Not Just a Visitor At Baekusaeng Makgeolli, our mission goes beyond a one-day experience. We don’t just host classes—we create makgeolli brewers worldwide. This is a hands-on, fun, and deeply instructive class designed to give you real brewing knowledge you can take home and continue using long after you leave Korea. In this class, you will: • Taste thoughtfully selected makgeolli, learning how aroma, sweetness, acidity, and texture come together. • Understand the essential ingredients and tools used in traditional and modern makgeolli brewing. • Dive into fermentation—from yeast and nuruk activity to filtering and conditioning techniques. • Take home your own makgeolli to ferment (approximately 1.2 liters), continuing the process yourself like a real brewer. By the end of the class, you won’t just have a bottle—you’ll have the foundation to keep brewing, experimenting, and deepening your relationship with makgeolli wherever you are in the world.

Wonderful experience learning about the art of rice wine making. Joe was an incredible instructor who gave us hands on opportunity in the making of this age old product. We even made a batch to take home with us. Got to taste a wonderful flight of different blends as well. I really enjoyed the class!

We were hosted in a quaint and cozy little shop, in an intimate space. Joe was a pleasant and knowledgeable host who guided us and answered all of our questions. And of course, the makgeolli was amazing! And not to mention, when we got lost looking for his shop, he was patient enough to help us figure out how to find him.

I had a great time learning how to make makgeolli at Joe's class. I have been drinking makgeolli for about 30 years but I didn't understand the subtlety of what to look for in a good makgeolli. And now I know how to make my own! I highly recommend this to anyone who likes drinking makgeolli and wants a fun activity learning how to make it. We also sampled some of Joe's makgeolli and it was DELICIOUS!

Fun lecture on the history and cultural significance of Makgeolli and the production of other types of alcohol. Also the tasting of the different varieties was great! We had a lot of fun and were able to make and take our own Makgeolli. We have now bought all the ingredients at home and will soon be making our own Makgeolli. Thanks again:)

It was my first time making makgeolli. I was taught how to make makgeolli very carefully and it was a wonderful time. I was able to sample many different kinds of makgeolli. The homemade makgeolli was incredibly delicious. I'm looking forward to taking the makgeolli home with me.

Joe was an excellent host and had great communication both before and after the class. I'd recommend this as a unique experience to anyone who likes getting hands on and learning something new. As a bonus, the makgeolli keeps flowing and it's fun seeing the difference between all the different options.

This class was wonderful, Joe is extremely knowledgeable and passionate about his craft and happy to share with others! I'd recommend this class to anyone travelling to Seoul in a heartbeat, don't miss out! My only regret is that I wouldn't be able to take my makgeolli with me on the plane home.
