Abbaye du Mont-Saint-Michel
The Mont-Saint-Michel architecture and its bay are the most visited tourist site of Normandy. Classified as historical monument in 1874, the place is part of the UNESCO world heritage list since 1979. Built between sand and sky, the Mont-Saint-Michel represents one of the most amazing middle ages creation. You will fall under the spell of the beauty of the landscape. Considered as a great feat of monastic architecture, the Abbey is built upon the bay's lonesome rock and becomes completely isolated at high-tide when the tiny island seems to emerge out of the water. During the day trip, you will discover the medieval city, the Abbey, and all tourist places of the site.

Mont St Michel is spectacular to experience. It is so unique. We really only had a driver not a guide as we had on other Viator tours. Once we arrived we were on our own to explore. That is the reason for only 4 stars. You could get audio recording guides at the abbey if you want. There are many steps to climb to get to the top of the abbey but once you get there the view is spectacular. The village below has places to eat and shop. It was a highlight of our time in France.

It is a unique and worthwhile experience. Mont St. Michel is very pretty, like a shining jewel sitting on a glossy mirror. My 11-year old son said the narrow alley inside looks like Diagon Valley in Harry Potter, and Hayao Miyazaki was perhaps inspired by it to create the mesmerizing film Castle in the Sky. It is a long drive from Paris, though, about 4 hours one way. Our guide Simon was friendly, considerate and knowledgeable. He made the trip more fun by introducing the landmark buildings in Paris while driving past them, and telling us the history of the Abbey in St Michel, as well as the unique culture of Normandy. I especially appreciate that he spoke English the whole way for our sake while other passengers in the car all understand French. My son and I were the only ones who don’t speak French. We thank Simon and the fellow tourists for a wonderful trip.

Fantastic day, definitely worth the crazy long drive. Guide was great. You won't have time to do everything so will have to prioritise what's most important to you!

Visiting Mont Saint-Michel was magical, but what truly made the day special was our guide, Simon. He was knowledgeable, kind, and genuinely passionate about the history of the place. He kept everything organized and engaging from start to finish. We learned so much and felt well cared for the entire time. Simon’s insights brought the abbey and its surroundings to life. I highly recommend this tour — and if you’re lucky enough to have Simon as your guide, you're in for an amazing day.
