Kitaguchi Hongu Fuji Sengen Jinja Shrine
Kitaguchi Hongu Fuji Sengen Shrine is a Shinto shrine located in Fujiyoshida City, Yamanashi Prefecture, Japan, at the northern foot of Mount Fuji. It serves as the main entrance to the Yoshida Trail, one of the traditional climbing routes to the summit of Mount Fuji. The shrine is dedicated to Konohanasakuya-hime, the Shinto goddess of Mount Fuji, and it has a long history dating back to ancient times. Visitors often come to the shrine to pray for safe travels and successful climbs before embarking on their journey up the mountain.

Shah was our travel guide and was truly amazing. He was very knowledgeable and spoke very good English. He also helped out by taking a bunch of family pictures for us and also taken some family pictures in the back ground which has made for some of our favourite family photos.

This tour, titled as an English-speaking guided tour, was quite disappointing. Our guide spoke very little English and didn’t provide much information about the sights we visited. The title was misleading, and it felt like we were being taken by a driver rather than a knowledgeable guide. To make matters worse, the driver informed us that fifth station of Mt. Fuji, which we had planned to visit, was closed to visitors this time of the year and accessible only by climbers. However, when I inquired about this with locals the next day, they assured me that we could still reach the 5th station by car. If you’re okay with a self-guided tour and a driver, then this tour might be suitable for you. Otherwise, I would recommend looking for another tour option.

Tour is highly recommended. Shah is a great driver. He took us to the popular spots around Mt. Fuji and spent an average of 45 minutes in each spot. The van is spacious, clean, modern and easily accommodated a family of five adults. We were really lucky to see the mountain today, as it was a clear day. We departed from Tokyo and took us two hours to get to our destination so bring some snacks and liquids. The drive was long, but safe.
